C5 Z06's NEVER came in convertibles. The one's that you're seeing are fakes.

Show him this thread. People will throw the rear brake vent ducts on their regular C5's and then put a Z06 badge on it. I see it all the time on Corvette Forum. All Z06's are hard tops. The new Grand Sports (which look like Z06's) can come in convertibles, but they're not Z06's and don't have the same drivetrain as one either.
And the C5 Z was only made from 2001-2004. '01 model was rated for 385hp and the '02-'04's were rated at 405hp.

im guessing they were built as hard tops only for optimal handling and performance.

I remember someone in ohio here taking a ZO6 and making a convertible out of it, but not an option till 2013 when they have a 427 conv with ZO6 options, I think!
