Does anyone else that goes to a college think this is just the monopoly of the century? I go to Indiana University and have managed to get not 1 but 2 parking tickets this week....and are they $10? $20? $30? NO
$50 EACH!
Indiana University alone (which is in a relatively small town) makes almost twice as much in parking ticket revenue than Indianapolis(the capital) does each year.
IU made $2.1 MILLION dollars in parking ticket revenue in 2001! http://www.idsnews.com/news/story.aspx?id=23537&search=al§ion=search
that was back before they jacked up the ticket prices again. I can't imagine what they make 11 years later.
This is just stupid. They own all the land in 3/4 of the entire town and everyone I know lives in an apartment complex that has some different sort of permit parking. I was staying over at my girl's place last night and even though there were open spaces right in front of her place I parked 3 blocks away just to be safe...nope still woke up to a ticket.:bang: The problem is you cannot even purchase these passes unless you live there so you can't ever have guests that drive....wtf.
Off the top of my head here are all the different parking pass options I can think of. A, B, C, D, E, FS, D1, D2, D3, G, reserve.
Which ones are students (nearly half of the entire population of the town) qualified to have? E....the lowest of the low. Which means we can park in some lot a mile from anywhere....and that's it.
How are they able to get away with this? I mean it's just a crazy monopoly because they own the land so noone can do shit about it but I think it's just plain :bs:

Fight the system man! Would make for a good semester project - tie it into one of your classes and make the change! A good professor that cares will help.
If it means anything - in college when I spent the night with my girlfriend - I came out to, not a ticket, but no vehicle at all! They towed me. $200 and half a day later, I had my truck back. I was pissed!

At my school (university of north Florida) they sell twice as many passes for the parking garages (premium pass = 190bucks a year) and they are filled by 10am. A regular parking pass is 90 bucks and you have to park out in bfe which is like .5 miles from campus. But they have slowly been taking out parking to build new buildings.. how can you build new buildings to get more students if you are removing parking? There are times that i circle the overflow lot for 20 minutes looking for a spot but if you park in the grass, you get a ticket. And they made a new permit that attaches to the windshield that is not removable so if you regularly drive 2 different vehicles, you need to buy 2 separate passes

Thats how UNT is, they are like the gestapo, ours are 35 which isnt too bad but they have horrid parking lots, and are really far but hey if you want to park in our huge brand new 6 story parking garage its 1200! F that, I normally park on street and walk my ass

Parking is fuck all at Boise State. Permits for "general" are like $185, you never, ever find a spot unless you go to class at 7am or 6pm. "Reserved and Garage" permits are $300+. Those are semester rates.
Get a ticket? $17 each time. Get 3 tickets and don't pay during the semester and your junk gets a boot. Boot removal, $95.
I figured out buying permits for campus parking was a waste of time after my first semester, I now park like 1/2 mile away and walk everyday.

I agree, i had about 5-7 tickets one year and they weren't cheap. A buddy of mine had ten...

ISU wouldn't give me my degree until I paid my outstanding parking tickets. I had over 20 of them - one of which I protested with no luck. They actually wrote the ticket while I was sitting in the car, blinkers on, car running, waiting on my girlfriend at the time to come down from her dorm. I was literally there for less than 2 minutes. Fucker must have followed me in...
Fun story though. A good friend of mine from college actually swiped a police/construction barricade (sawhorse looking one) and used it to "reserve" his spot for the duration of his college days (free parking on the streets - spots were scarce). Whenever he went somewhere, he'd put the barricade out. He'd come back, take it down, put it in his trunk, and he had his spot back. He did this for 4 years and no one ever questioned why the barricade was sitting there. He even left it out over the summer before his senior year, just to see if it would still be there. The man is brilliant at manipulating situations like this.

I paid I think around $200 for my E pass and it's both nessesary but worthless. They intentionally make it to where there is nowhere that you can park on a street or anything near campus so you MUST park in the lot...which is far away. Only way around this is to live on campus and walk...and not own a car. Not to mention all the campus housing is extremely expensive and terrible.
I think a big reason they are getting away with this is because IU is now like 70% foreign exchange asian students that come over with a bunch of money and all drive mercedes and bmw's(why the asians are driving german cars is beyond me) and don't mind paying $50 for a ticket...meanwhile the small town kid working his way through college just getting by(like me) gets fucked over.
I've been sitting on my TSP cam kit for over a year now and can't save up a measly $600-$800 for the install and tuning...it's terrible. I just want to get it done but I keep getting hit with stupid shit like this.
I have no clue how much garage passes are...or if students are even allowed to get them. I do know that if you live on campus and have a vehicle it has to be parked way out in that lot so you have to take a bus to get to your car...plus since that's the only lot to store them in a ton of spots are ALWAYS taken so you have to park a quarter mile away from the bus stop. It's all just really frustrating...

I'm at USC (the real one, not the one in Cali. :engarde:) and I pay $280 a semester to park in a garage. It's fairly close to all my classes (farthest I have to walk is about 1/2 mile twice a week). They do give a good amount of parking tickets here but I was more worried about having to drive around for 15 minutes every day before class to find a metered spot than I was getting a ticket. With the parking permit I get my own assigned spot that no one else can park in (I feel like a VIP :D), so not having to find a spot every day is worth it especially since I live 25 minutes from campus.
I do have to park on the top story though, so no shade. Oh, and the ramps inside the garage are pretty steep, so I can't take the T/A because the exhaust would clear get scraped to shit.

heres what you gotta do. Take one of your tickets and leave it on your window everytime you park. Most cops arent gonna stop by and look to see when the ticket was made they usually just think you got the ticket that day for doing whatever you were doing already. Works for me!

wont work at my school.. they dont care haha. my friends t/a rolled out of its parking spot (parking brake was shot) and they gave him a ticket for blocking traffic and not parking in a designated spot.. really. the damn car rolled out and the spot that it rolled from was still empty so how the hell can you say it wasnt parked in a designated spot...

Been like that forever. I went to SIU in the early 90's and they did the same shit. "No one parks for free"...that's what the tow company's used to tell everyone as you were handing them $100.

My unniversity is on an island. I either pay to park, which isnt bad at $150 for the year including summer, or do not go to school. I park in the farthest parkinglot in the furthest corner so no asshat will ding my car.
I have come out of class or a dorm that I spent the night at to find a few warning for not having resident parking pass since I parked in her lot but never a ticket, yet.
I did get a ticket for leaving my pass in my other car and a warning for not having the car the pass was in registered the to the pass number.
Our average tickets run 35-50.
I dread Fall semesters when we get the new wave of freshman and lose all the parking. Longboarding to class everyday can get old when it is windy right off the beach.

i got a $15 ticket last week for not leaving my hazards on in a temporary parking spot... i paid it in pennies. Did i leave it in the rolls? Hell no, i put them in a big jar and made that asshole count it out. After awhile he said just to go.

I don't see how that would work. The guys that check the lots are on shifts, if a dude walks by your car on a shift and then walks by it again an hour later and there is a ticket that he didnt give you, in his lot.
Welp. um.

I guess it depends what size college and most College security guards/rent-a-cops don't/wont remember which car he last gave a ticket to. Especially if he gives them out quite frequently. If they see you illegally parked and a ticket in your window they usually assume you already got a ticket that day for being parked there is what im saying.

ive done that before and it works. The rent-a-cop doesnt know, they either havent graduated from college or are just too lazy to look at the ticket to see when it was written. alot of the times they come in a nice envelope (my college uses pink) and so i just kept one and stick it under the wiper whenever im somewhere where i shouldnt, and it works.

We have a small, full-time staff for our University Parking & Services Dept. I remember one time some twat marked my tire with some chalk just like the city does, so they remember if the car has been there over time.
Chalk or not, touch my station wagon and I'm going to punch you square in the neck.
