Default A.I., TEA or TFS heads for mild 383?

Gonna get one of these for my 383 being built. I'm either gonna buy a set of 243/799 heads and ship them to get work done or get the trickflow as-cast 220s.

Set-up as of now is the older FAST 90/90, iron 383 (3.903" bore), Futral F-13 (230/232-114+4).
I had the patriot ported 5.3s on the last 383, they were good, but I want to take more advantage of the set-up this go around.
Thoughts or experiences? This is going in my 99' ext. cab btw.

A guy on here made some awesome numbers on his 383 with TFS 220 heads and a VRX cam. That would be my vote. In the end, they will cost basically the same as an OEM ported head.

Above is a link to one, but he used TFS 215's. I've heard the 215's will make on average about 10 more rwhp than the 220's.

TFS with the powdered metal guides so you can run the stock rockers (with the trunion upgrade) IMO.

Do you know what (and where to get them) shims you have to run to do that?

Does Thunder Racing still sell them? That's where I've always heard people got them from.

A.I. heads flow alot better than people might think. The biggest benefit to the tricks and afr's is the deck thickness. If your not going forced induction then I wouldn't spend the money on aftermarket heads. As you can see, it's A.I. for me.

I bought a long block from Vengance that was stock displacement with TFS 215's i'm pretty happy with my set-up now.

But, if I was to do it again, I would go with the AI 226's. I think AI does some of the best work out there, and the guys down there are very knowledgeable.

On the hand if I go FI which is most likely for my next project, I will be going with the AFR heads.

Like they said above you get the thicker deck with an aftermarket casting which is one of the reasons I would go with them.

Good luck with your build and be sure to post up your results. I've been kicking around the 383 idea for a long time and love seeing people that go that route.

No shims. Vengeance has a lot of sales on TFS stuff or get them from TEA

Please do not shim any trickflow heads with stock rockers... I have trickflow 225's with brians springs and they work flawless.. If you want a max hp setup ****** up some 215's.. If you want a more budget friendly option on a set of trickflow 220's pm brian tooley on here and he can hook you up. But just fyi... My 225's look insanely nice and I wouldnt have any 220 head over my 225's. Or in your case 215's....just my .02$

I don't think anyone would CHOOSE to have the 220's over anything cnc. It's more of a budget issue.
