8.1 Vortec (Gen VII) I'm assuming? They use a 4.25 x 4.375 bore/stroke, use LS ignition and computer (and firing order), have ZERO interchange with any other BBC's (except headers), non-adjustable valve train (that use 5/16 push rods and 10mm studs), and use all metric fasteners. They do however make tons of torque and can tow just about whatever you want (at the cost of fuel economy).

All I know is I have one, and a 6.0 in exactly the same trucks. Empty the 6.0 will outrun the 8.1. Might have something to do with the Allison and the dead tune. Loaded up however things change. I call the 8.1 the trailer tongue tester. It will out pull my Dodge Diesel, and can empty a fuel tank twice as fast:)

I have a bunch of BBC's and love them but from the factory the 8.1 is lame for performance. I would not even hesitate a second if I wanted to put one in a 72 Blazer. Should be very easy if you're able to deal with the PCM part of it. What transmission are you thinking of using? Is it 4 wheel drive?

And get a big radiator:)
