Tools & Fabrication - Tech 1 tool or tech 2 tool

what are the main differances between a tech 1 tool and a tech 2 tool? i assume tech 1 is odb1 and tech 2 is odb2 correct? can tech 2 be used on odb 1 and 2 cars?
Im trying to find out which one to buy. I have Hp tuners for my LS stuff but i need something for my L98 and LT1 cars.

tech 1 is nice for the obd 1 cars but cant even compare to how great the tech 2 is for obd 2 cars, you could get a tech 1 cheep but tech 2 is going to cost you some coin

Pretty much all it will do is read some codes.

Most if not all 96 and newer cars are OBD2, anything pre 96 is OBD1. Most obd1 use a "jumper wire" within the factory harness to retrieve engine codes. Buying an OBD1 reader really wouldn't be worth the money. The obd1 code readers would come with multiple adapters for different vehicles that would honestly be pointless because most obd1 cars use the jumper wire within the harness to retrieve the codes. Id rather buy an obd2 code reader that can also read SRS(air bag) codes and ABS(anti-lock brake)codes. I have the Matco scanner below and works great for me but they also came out with a newer version that actually trouble shoots the code for you and helps you pin point the problem to save time.
