LS4 Performance - Good wearing tires?

Need two tires for the front to replace the Toyos. Looks like the rears are going to last forever. What's a good, long wearing tire?

just pay attention to the wear rating when you buy.

Thanks for the advice. Found a great deal on a pair of 255 45 18 Goodyear Eagle F1 SuperCar tires ($259 for a pair), but I'm not sure these would be a good choice for the family sedan.

The Pilot Sports sound like a good choice albeit a little pricey. Very happy with the Michelins on our last GP though. You get what you pay for sometimes.

what are you looking for other than last a long time? Allseason, summer, winter?

All season. The car did fairly well in the snow with the Toyo's on the front, but they are cooked already. Disappointed with those. My wife's no slouch with the pedal, but doesn't drive too hard or ever spin the tire(s). It's her work car and our family car.

Eagles on the rear but I don't think they make a matching tire in the 255/45 series. At least the car is not cupping the rear tires like all of our other FWD Pontiacs have done.

I had a pair of these on the front for about 10K and it looked like they never wear down at all with me spinning the tires a little bit. I can't say how they were in the snow as we didn't get any this year.

I have those G-max on my GXP. Good performance out of them, so so in snow but by far the loudest tire I have had on any car. I cant wait to wear em out and replace them.

The problem with the GXP it is a high powered front driver and you cant rotate the tires. So just about any tire you get is not gonna last. Any tire you get with a high treadware is not gonna perform as well either. I am fortunate enough to have bought a set of winter wheels and tires for my car. I am replacing the whole set with these

I am on the stock rears with -2.0 camber in back and they still have at least 60% tread left. I run winter tires so Im guesstimating they have roughly 50K on them. Only reason Im getting rid of them is because they are 7 year old tires and they are dry rotting. Im on the second set of fronts and I replaced them with the OE tires running -1.7 camber in front. My wife drives the car and shes a lead foot. Im replacing the fronts because they have about 20% left on them. I ended up getting the whole set OTD for $760.00 I believe it cost me $650 to replace the 2 fronts with the OE tires! They should be in today and if you like I can post my opinion on them tomorrow when I have them installed.

My brother in-law swears by Yokohama he ran them on his Bimmer and went through two sets. I had Yoko's on an SE-R and they were good in the snow and lasted awhile.

I would suggest Continental Extreme Contact DSW's my friend runs them on the front of his GXP but with less than 20k on them the "s" wore off so they aren't good for snow anymore. I run them on my GTP and they are awsome but I rotate them every oil change and I get about 30k a set on them and im on the second set since I started using them.

Go asymmetric and rotate them often.

My Toyo Proxes 4's lasted 34k of hard driving and rode unbelieveibly smooth and the grip was awesome. I'm riding on snow's and stocks right now, waiting for my new 19's and getting the new Toyo 1 sport front and rear. Can't wait.

These are what I have and I love them as well as ever other GXP owner that has them on... Plus the price isnt bad. I know of guys who have gotten 70k out of a set.

x2 on the Kumho Ecsta LX Platinum. I have like 15K on them and you can not even tell they are worn at all. Very Happy with them so far.

DO not get the Goodyear Eagle F1s. I had a set that lasted 10K and they replaced them for free under their milage warrany and the second set only lasted 10K as well and the alignment on the car was right on every time.

No offense intended toward the SS guys but yall have different tire requirements then we do with our GXPs. The selection is limited if you want a matching set due to the odd side and different size front and rear. Plus we have a different suspension too. I wish I could rotate my tires... I've used the Bridgestone RE50s, 760s (with RE50s in the rear since they done have matching rears), and the Pole Positions.

Both the RE50 and Pole position had very good handling. The tread life sucked and that was with conservative driving and proper alignment. The Poles were better then the RE50. The 760s upfront had a pretty good tread life but I was still not fully happy with them.

I love my LX Platinum. After reading alot of reviews from other GXP owners I was set on giving them a try. They give up some dry weather traction under very spirited driving but with the Traction Control and Stability Control on with the Active Handling you wont really notice it. They are quieter then any of the Bridgstones. And for me in the south with all the FL and GA heavy rains I wanted better wet traction. And the LX Platinum really deliver it better then any of the Bridgestones... Would I recommend them for the track, NO. But I can honestly say that you wont be finding yourself needing anything more on the street. Expectantly when you see how long the tread lasts.

The cars are not vastly different. And who said you need matching tires front and rear? It's not ideal to have vastly different tread design and compound on each axle but there's many similar performing tires that could be mixed and matched. I'm going to run Toyo proxes 1's in front and Proxes 4 in back as the staggered will handle and grip better.

You could rotate staggered tires if you go with an asymmetric tire...

I will say that the wider tire helps a lot. When I bought my second gxp the previous owner had just installed new 225's all around and the traction, as well is torque steer was ridiculous.

I installed 255s in the front and 235s in the rear and it was like a different car. Tire: Michelin Pilot Sport A/S plus.
