Yeah i cant believe he said that, in Miami of all places too where they just spent 400 million on a new stadium i believe. That was terrible im surprised they did not get rid of him.

What exactly did he say that was so offensive? There's too much to read there.
He exercised his freedom of speech. He did absolutely nothing that would affect his ability to do his job.

He said he loves fidel castro and respects him for being in power so long.then says he didnt mean it,that he was thinking in spanish and speaking in english
I agree about the freedom of speech though, hes allowed to say stupid things, just like when he said he supported hugo chavez

what he didn't realize is that the Cubans in "Little Havana" hate Castro. He was just trying to play up to the people in Florida. He meant no harm.

He's a Venezuelan, so he probably supports both Chavez and Castro. He's always been a bit of a speak first think later type of dumbass.
He does have a right to speak freely. You have a right to say you are happy that nearly 3000 people were killed on 9/11, but don't be surprised when people call for your head.
He said a stupid thing in a sensitive area. What do you expect to happen?

Correct...
...and rightly so, everyone else has their freedom of speech to call him a dumbass. He is a dumbass.
As far as affecting his ability to do his job, no. But his words don't reflect the standards of the organization. So he gets a penalty.

True. Freedom of Speech is so misunderstood. The Constitution states that the Government shall not infringe on that right. Your employer can step all over it. He made a comment that makes his employer look bad, their customers were upset, and he was therefore punished.
This is like when The Dixie Chicks got all butthurt when people quit buying their records when they made their comments about the President. The Constitution protected them from the Federal Government imprisoning and or harming them due to those comments. People electing not to buy their records anymore because they ran their mouth was not an infringment on their rights, but instead, an excercision of the buying publics rights.

The stadium is build in Miami where the fan base is full of Cuban refugees and thats the audience they are trying to capture. Everyone knows that the Cubans hate communism and many have had their family killed and lived under the torture of that sicko. Sure the manager is free to say what he wants but in a place with dwindling ticket sales and a $600+ million stadium built that the taxpayers helped with is it a good idea to say what he did? He can say what he wants but it all comes down to money and that was a dumb as it gets and couldnt be any worse for the team.
I think he will be fired IMO. Imagine the Mets manager saying he appreciates Hitler.

he can say whatever he wants.
he can also be fired for it. can you say whatever you want where you work and not get in trouble?
i could tell a female customer shes hot and id like to fuck her. would it affect my performance? no,but it would'nt matter because id no longer be employed there.
you're free to say whatever you want. that does'nt mean there are'nt consequences.
Wow, yall are really going out there with examples. I don't believe the Dixie Chicks were dropped from their label (I could be wrong though, as I don't listen to that crap anyway). People CHOOSING not to buy their albums afterwards, that was a personal choice on their part.
And Ultimate, comparing sexual harassment to someone's legal personal beliefs? Seriously?
Here's the deal, I'm not defending the guys statement...only his right to say what he wants. I never said he wasn't a dumbass either. People get offended by other folks statements everyday. Who cares? Suck it up and grow a pair.

I'm typing this on my phone, so it's kind of hard to isolate parts of your quote. But, you are correct. However, what kind of message does it send to the public when he's only penalized for what is it, 5 games? This is telling me that the organization doesn't really care either, but are just going through the motions to put on a show. Maybe quiet some folks down.

i was a bit extreme but my point is saying whatever you want just might get you in trouble.
i dont care either. i just brought it up for discussion.
and ozzie knows he was wrong thats why hes trying to save his ass.
I agree. I believe anybody who has to recant and rephrase statements are just on damage control.

THIS. The asshole deserves to be fired, Castro has been an asshole and a thorn in the side of the USA for over 50 years. As much as I hate to say it, there would be no "Little Havana" or any sort of significant Cuban population in Miami if it were not for Castro.

Well I don't disagree with any of that. If it were my organization I would fire him. But it isn't. Fans can choose whether they feel like the punishment was enough with ticket sales. I could care less since I will never be down there for a game. But I'll hold my opinion that I think he is dumb.

THey were not dropped. They did complain in an interview about their Freedom of Speech after the incident. I brought it up to illlustrate the point that when private citizens do not want to patronize your product due to running of one's mouth, it is not s rights issue, but a drastic miscalculation of your market.
