Default Installing oil Temp Gauge...question about sending unit....

Hello, I'm installing a oil temperature gauge in my car and I just have a quick questions about the sending unit. It's from a Autometer Pro CompII electric oil temperature gauge. I'm wondering if I can shorten the sending unit probe at all? It's a little too long for my application, and I just need to shorten it maybe 3-4mm. I wasn't sure if doing this would expose anything inside the probe....or if the probe is solid brass.

This is the piece I'm talking about,

Thank you.

I'd use an adapter bung to run it through to get the tip where you went it instead of trying to trim the probe

Yea thats what I did. 1/8"NPT tap. Seal the threads and forget about it. I didn't use an adaptor.

I ended up just using a Y fitting off of my blower oil inlet for the temp sensor. More peace of mine, since I wouldn't have to route the wiring by the header. And I already had a hole in my fire wall for my boost and fuel pressure gauge.

Thank guys.
