First time at track with new th400 and converter.

Was only doing 1/8 mile runs and made one full 1/4 mile pass hotlapping it I went 10.05 at 146.1 mph with a 1.71 60 foot on 17 psi, 14 degrees timing and 10.5 AFR on 114 octane. Best 1/8 mile was 6.39 at 87 mph with a 1.35 60 foot on 14 psi and 9 degrees timing and 10.1 AFR, I got on the brakes at the 330 foot mark, I thought I was at 1/8 mile. Best 1/8 mile mph was 116.89, just 3 mins later I was in the burnout box and did my 10.0 pass at only 115 mph in 1/8 mile. Hot lapping cost me a bit, dropped 1 mph in the 1/8.

With that said comparing my lower boost 330 foot time with my 10.00 pass. I should of been able to go 9.30 - 9.39 on 17 psi with a good 60 foot on low timing and pretty rich AFR. Cars coming apart for cage install on the 20th. I've been daily driving in the last week or so, doesn't do bad with the 3.08 gears and th400. Drove it to and from the track.

Car weight 3480 with out me and I weigh around 190 lbs. Not a light race car by any means. Below is the video of the 6.39 1/8 mile run, video of 1/4 mile pass coming soon.

Nice! Looks pretty comparable to what mine ran before. Once you get more seat time at the track and lean it out some, it shouldn't have any issue going low 9's. As long as you can keep cutting 1.3x 60's.

Should be a blast once you get it sorted out!

What does the 370 consist of and what stall speed is your converter?

Yep, hoping with the changes getting done next that I can get to 150 mph at 17 - 18 psi next time out. An maybe a 9.1 - 9.2 to go with it.

Definately need a different converter. Shows a ton of promise with that 1/4 mph though.

On my other passes I was told my true trac wasn't working properly and when I did my burn out a wheel would stop spinning. I tried leaving on 2 psi and the car would wheelie like it wants to go on the bumper and then it would start spinning while it was up. Partly cause I need to ramp the boost in. It was going from 2 psi to 17 psi within .4 of a second.

So I guess I need to put a spool in it and I was looking around last night. Gonna have to order some madman travel limiters and maybe those bars he makes that help prevent cracking block, oil pan, and transmission case. Hoping when the cage is in the car it becomes a little more predictable off the line.

More boost the a better 60' you'll def run 8's, its been done over and over. I'm in the process of building this identical 370/PT88 and its going in my 2500lb car. Hopefully I can hook up as well!

I'm selling the turbo setup off of the car in this thread for 2500 complete, then gonna be putting the 408 car back to N/A. Using the turbo setup off of that car on car in this thread, It will finally have full 4 inch exhaust with two mufflers. Would love to get it as quiet as your LTD, curious how much weight would be added if I split the 4 inch exhaust to dual 3 inch and had 4 mufflers.

Currently the Red Camaro has a 12 inch long 4 inch down pipe. It gets annoying driving around like that, the whole plan for this car was to get it to run high 8s while driving to and from the track and keeping it daily drivable. Pretty much like your LTD.

Right now the car is looking like hell. Only thing inside of it right now is a steering wheel and driver seat. Off to chassis shop Friday for 10 point, window net and stroud parachute.

This was just after getting the dash out, will be deleting the HVAC system and passenger airbag. Car will have Kirkey Pro Street seats and 5 point harness. Looking at putting the car on a little bit of a diet to get the race weight around 3500 lbs. Will be kind of hard to do, think I will end up with new carpet with dynamat as the suspension is just a little to noisy.

Yea I really need to use my 2 step, It went up too much so I slowly lowered the rpms till the boost was 2 - 3 psi then left. Boost went to 17 psi when I first loaded it hard on the brake.

Car's at the chassis shop. I'm happy it will finally have the safety equipment, wasn't wanting to make a full pass without it for my own safety.

Tracks only 10 mins. But I drove the car 8 plus hours in 1 day. Went from Stl Mo to Kansas City, Went on 2 car cruises then went to the track did a few passes trapped in the 140s mph wise and went 10.4 with stock rims and nitto 555r tires. Then drove back home with no issues. 3 hours of that was in the rain.

Car has 3.08 gears and goes down the highway just fine.

Btw I wouldn't mess with those on craigslist, Find your self a good builder and they normally have stock cores to start out with. Mine was built for 1000 rwhp, has a trans brake and a J.W bell housing. The bell housing added 400 to the cost but it's needed for I believe 9.99 or faster.

Use the two step so you have flash left in the converter.

Having it nosed up right on the stall's max speed is going to hurt your 330' more than anything. It might 60' the same, but it won't have the acceleration it really needs without the flash of the converter.

Sounds like it needs a new converter anyways, but 146mph with a loose ass converter is great power.

It should go 150+ and it for sure has a 8.90 in it the way it sits.

You will love the travel limiters and SYA bars also. I have custom SYA's, but Madman limiters. For the price they are VERY well built. 1/2" adjustments make it easy to find the sweet spot.

You will probably end up with a 10" converter, where are you going to get the new one made?

Do both cars have the same turbo?

Both cars have pt88s. The silver car has one with billet wheel upgrade thought. That car is going back to N/a however and the silver cars turbo setup is going on the red one.

Fbodyjunkie06
05-23-2012, 06:30 PM
I guess I missed the post where you said you were going to keep the converter.

This is just what I was told by one company, then another told me it would be no problem.

They said a 9" they couldn't get much if any tighter than 4500 in my 650-700rwhp application at 3050lbs race weight, then the other company said they could crank down the stator as much as I wanted to really, but it would have to be played with to make it not too tight most likely.

If it's a track only light street car you might be able to make it work.

If it was a track car hell I'd want the stall to be in the 4500-4800rpm range like it is now, just with the right shift extension to give me some room to work with the two step, spool and flash so that it could get to full boogy a lot faster and have it lock up hard in the 5200-5500 range where you're going to be making most of your torque with that turbo.

Kurt at Mid Coast Performance. He did a really good job. Everything is well thought out. Seats are comfortable as well. Maybe even more comfy then the SS seats are. I wouldn't hesitate to use him again for chassis work.

You should fix your tune. 10.5 AFR on race gas is way rich. Unless it's a high compression motor, you are leaving atleast 4 degree's of timing on the table. That's a shitload of power on top of what you would pick up from leaning out a point at that boost level. Some people are under the misconception that rich is safe and it is not. Specially with the amount of fuel that you are using at these power levels. Good way to lift a ringland on a piston.

That's a shitload of power on top of what you would pick up from leaning out a point at that boost level. Some people are under the misconception that rich is safe and it is not. Specially with the amount of fuel that you are using at these power levels. Good way to lift a ringland on a piston.

Was working on tune at track, Leaning it out each pass, I bought an extra sensor to double check as it didn't seem to be leaning out as much as it should with each change.

Even though it doesn't look like it, the car is getting closer to done. Needed the Kmember out of my silver car since I'm using the turbo kit off of that car so I can run full exhaust.

The car would have been able to start by now but I spent an hour trying to get the downpipe vband clamp on on Wednesday with no luck. Thinking maybe start up on Sunday, hoping having a quiet exhaust will be worth all the hassle.

I believe it's the stock pump. I never painted it, figured the paint would come right off. Might take it off to paint it when I go to change cam.

Gonna try and roll car out today and wash it. It's covered in dust. It's a pain ordering seat belts. I want 5 point camlock style that wraps around the cage instead of bolt in. Seems like it will be 2 - 4 weeks to get some.

Yea your the one that inspired me to do this build. No need to reinvent the wheel.

Rolled the car out and sprayed it off today. Haven't hand washed it yet, first wash since new paint. Needs a bit of detailing.

For those have done abs delete, Did you have to pull the manifolds off to do so? I might take it all back off if that's the case. Might end up wrapping the manifold. Also adding a vband to 4 inch pipe that goes through kmember so it's easier to mess with.

I been looking at the exhaust. I think I may be able to get some 4 inch straight pipe and add a open downpipe just after the turbo. That I can add electric cutout too. That way I can run the full exhaust with no power loss. Just a little added weight. I prefer the car being as quiet as possible.

Did you use a kit or did you make and bend the lines? I'm wanting to hide most of it.

I got bored last night so I went out to the garage and looked for something I could do without getting too dirty. Ended up painting the rusty waterpump pulley with paint I have for my cage.

I use the factory lines and just cut off all the metric ends to the length of line that I needed,
I went to autozone and bought the adapters to convert the metric females on the master to a stander flared end.
pretty simple took about 2hrs.

by the way the pulley looks alot better

I went ahead and took the manifolds back off, Gonna clean them up, paint them, and wrap them. Meanwhile I will have to figure out the abs delete thing.

Tonight I finally got the motor bolts to go in, it's always been a pain to do for what ever reason. I also made the hvac delete panel, just need to mark and drill holes. Don't have a drill press handy. Might have to do it this weekend.

Once I finally get this thing back on the road, I will have to pull the rearend out and have spool installed, still trying to find one that works with 3 series 3:08 gears in a GM 12 bolt.

Thanks Brandon, I really hope to get this thing done soon, really only thing holding me back is the brakes, not sure how to do it, I don't intend to use a kit. Planning on just buying the line, cutter and flare tools.

The sooner I get this on the road the sooner I can get going on my boost controller, So far I plan on basing it on speed on a mph basis. Will have a learning mode that will automatically find the optimal boost per speed without wheel spin. Would like to get it done for the KC meet. Would like to run 20 - 22 psi on the street lol.

At least 12 inches of snow already today, I only went out to put my newly painted parts on to see how they turned out. I have to say that plasti dip looks really good and I like the texture they have. Hopefully the engine bay heat doesn't destroy it.

I spent about 30 mins on each manifold getting all the rust and rough spots off of them. Did two coats with VHT flameproof flat black. Hoping it stays looking decent for atleast a few months. Might try ceramic coating in the future.

Alright, I'm hoping that my wiring issue I had that made me decide to take the car apart for paint wasn't an issue with the computer. Cause if I get it back together and have same issue I wanna try the other car's ecm.
