I have a 10 bolt rear end that is complete with axles and backing plates. It came out of my SS and was in the car about 500 miles when I pulled it and stored it. It is a 3 channel abs rear , 3.42 gears and a GM torsen for a 1999 camaro SS. I sold the car so its not going back in. I would like to sell it , but not give it away. what is a fair price to ask
thanks

$150-300
I bought a complete 3.42 one for $150 not long ago and got an extra set of gears with it, i've seen a few sell a bit higher with 4.10's though. Typically anything 3.23 and lower are damn near throw away since nobody wants to buy them.

I sold a 323 4 channel out of an 01 auto ss for $275 recently , the thread is around here somewhere - I was asking $300.
I would be interested in yours as it is 3 channel and 342 exactly whats in my wifes z.
please explain the miles you say it was in the car for 500 miles , how many miles did it have when you got it.
I can be there with cash and toss it in my truck this weekend if its reasonable enough to grab- your only an hour from me , I dont need it but would like a spare lol

He said he removed it from his SS with 500 miles on the car.

I guess I would let it go for 350, I was thinking 400 as it it like new.
I ordered the car from GM , and had a 10 bolt already built up for the autoxing that I do. so it was swapped in right away

I'd pay $350 if you were close and it had the Auburn ;)

yea its a bit of a ride for you, Auburn, yuck they are dead in 20k on the street and less if you autox. they last about 1/3 a season of autoxing

Mine is still going strong at 100,600 ;) Just going by what I've read though regarding the torsen, but I am no expert at all!

I will bet you that you auburn is very worn out. They dont break and die a violent death, they slowly fade away. You can test them with a Tq wrench as there is a "break away " torque spec that tells you how well the cone clutches are grabbing. That force slowly fades down till it is of no real use. The Auburn is a NON rebuild-able clutch type posi. They use the case itself as one of the friction surfaces so the cones wear into the case itself. Auburn itself knows this and even had an exchange program for racers where you sent them the worn center section and they sent you a new one, and all versions suffer the same design flaw.
Unlike the Torsen If you exceed the limits of an Auburn it just slips more. A True Torsen will run at 100% forever , but if its limits are exceeded , BOOM.
GM's torsens are a watered down version with fewer internal gears to save a buck and they have been known to wear "loose"

$400 w/ backing plates and only 500 miles is a very fair deal.
I wouldn't let it go for under $300

Long story short, I know its sold but what "proof" is there. To be honestthe best you can do is pull the cover, inspect, hopefully the gear oil is original. If there is no abnormal wear on the gear, no chunks, or glitter in the oil thats the best you can do short of tossing the rear in the car and going for a drive.

well I installed it yesterday and it works great and the housing was way to clean to have a ton of miles on it and the oil that wasn't drained out completely was clear. I deff believe bill he seems like a good guy. The only bump in the road I had was that I have vett zo6 wheels on my camaro and I needed longer than the stock studs to mount my wheels lol, I was all done and realized it I'm like oh crap, but I figured it out.
