Question Who have H/C !!!Enter!!!

Just want to know how many miles can you run on a full tank? Does 5.3 consume fuel more than 5.7?

I don't know about the difference in the heads, but depending on the cam and gear you are runnining your gas mileage will vary. My 98 Z-28 gets around 22 miles to the gallon on the highway and 17 in town. That is if I drive sensable! It is possible to have a fast car and get decent mileage. It just takes some planning! My 98 Z has mostley bolt-ons right now, but I am getting ready to do some more work on it! We will see , but I am hoping to get at least 18 highway and 14 city when I am done.

I had a 80 Z-28 with a 408 ci small block, Ported Edelbrock Performer RPM Heads, a Crane 236/242-538/558 hyd roller cam, a Performer RPM intake, a massaged 750 vac. secondary carb, Hooker 1 7/8" headers, a 700R4 transmission, and 3:73 gears.
I got 18 mpg on the highway (55/60 mph) and between 12 & 14 mpg city with that car. It had right at 480 hp and 500 ft lbs of torque. Never could get it to hook up with street tires and I never put slicks on it, but it was Fast!

Yes, it is possible to have both, performance and decent mileage!

I wish I had never sold that car, but some one offered me a big price for it and I let it go.

That is around 20 mpg since these cars only hold 15 gallons and you had aroun 1/4 tank left

Why do you care? I think I get about 20 on the highway but never checked. I did not add H/C for mileage. If that is a big concern for you this may not be the route you want to take.

I like the fact that I can have a car that is efficient and is not hard on the pocket book. When gas goes up to $2.00 a gallon and higher it will make a difference. If you want to drive a race car on the street that fine. But I have been there done that. Now I just like driving my car. Maybe I am getting old, but that is what matters to me. Everyone is different! That's what makes Hot Rodding a fun thing to do!

23 MPG on the interstate running 80-85 MPH. Runs 11.2 in the 1/4. You CAN have performance and efficiency.

Same with me, I'm right around there... and I drive both back roads and parkway to work and home.

I got a c5 (lighter), its mostly stock w/ headers, gutted cats, intake, I got 460 out of a tank (17 gallons), and still had a few miles left in the tank, of course when I drive all city I only get about 16mpg babying it for the most part. If you set the cruise control on the highway in these cars, the gas mileage is insane.

I have gotten 330 miles from a full tank in my H/C SS. Most of that was highway though. To get decent mileage you will have to short shift or skip shift if you have a 6 speed. I typically pull away from a stop in 1st with very little gas and shift to 2nd before 2500rpm and then at about 20mph I shift right to 4th then at about 28-30 I shift to 5th. I commonly cruise in 6th 35-40mph. The 4.10s really help out, but I still do this in my stock 00 WS6 with the 3.42s.
