Hey guys,
I have had this mod wrapped up for 2 weeks now on the car. I cannot smile big enough at the improvement it made. I am gonna go to the shop and do a few things tomorrow, I'll have the wheels off the car, so I will snap some more pics and gather my PN list and post it here in this thread for all of you looking to do this upgrade...

Here are the PN's I used and other aftermarket products

FRONT;

ACDelco 177-1105 OE Service Front Brake Rotor - Qty 2
ACDelco 172-2488 OE Service Front Brake Caliper- LH

PRODUCTS ALSO USED;

Russel Stainless Steel Braided Brake Line Kit
ATE' Super Blue Brake Fluid

Brake System Torque Specs

Front Caliper Bolts - 129lb-ft
Front Caliper Bridge Bolt - 24lb-ft
Front Caliper Bleeder - 124lb-in (10lb-ft)
Front Caliper Banjo Bolt - 36lb-ft
Rear Caliper Bolts - 96lb-ft (including adapter bracket)
Rear Caliper Bleeder - 115lb-in (9.5lb-ft)
Rear Caliper Banjo Bolt -36lb-ft

**NOTE**

The Factory Parking Brake is not retained with just these items, you will need to acquire the custom Parking Brake Shoe from Adam@Squash (currently being produced)
Make sure you use New Copper Washers, I did not use the washers supplied with the Russel Kit as they were not Copper
The factory G8 steering knuckle Caliper Mount holes will need to be drilled out to 14mm. Any machine shop should be able to do this for you (Mine were done for $10)

As some of you know, I am a Service Manager at a GM Dealer, in which I pay 10% over cost, BUT THE ONLY GM PARTS I bought at my price level was the Brake Pad Pin Kits as they weren't avail through the online options I purchased everything else from cheaper than I could at my price level...Do the homework and you too will have the upgrade done for around $1700-1900 complete (now this is me doing the install) so you may have added cost involved if you can't do it yourself.

I did the following along with it;

BMR Subframe Connectors with Tunnel Brace
BMR Full Sway Bar Set
Eibach Spring Set

I powdercoated the SFC, SwarBars & Tunnel Brace the same color as the Calipers...The decal is Matte Black

Awesome upgrade. I really don't like the "V" logo on the calipers and would prefer just "Brembo" myself.

Have you noticed a difference in the feel of the brakes? How does the factory master cylinder feel with them? Seems like these brakes will require more fluid to work...
I am doing this install this summer, I HAVE to!

04-16-2012, 06:12 PM
Thanks guys!! I definately LOVE the brakes now. NO FADE WHAT SO EVER. As for the Master Cyl the G8 is actually longer, but I am not certain of the bore dimensions between the two. I don't see ours not being suited though. I'm sure the same Master Cyl was used for the GXP 4 pot setup from the Factory

How was prepping the calipers for powder coating? Did you remove the pistons? How about the bleed bolt and tube crossover?

XxXTransAmXxX
04-17-2012, 01:02 PM
Prepping wasn't bad at all. I would say anyone with mechanical "know-how" can do it. As you can tell from the pictures, you rotate clamps around till all pistons are removed.

Having tech education and experience I wasn't worried what so ever though. I chose to prep them on my behalf so I knew if a Dust Boot or a Pressure Seal was knicked or compromised and could address it before installing it to find out the hardway. I did remove the bleeders, but left the Balance Tubes installed. I did not blast them as most coaters do this in house, and then "bake out" any oils. I removed the pistons, seals, and bleeders, brake cleaned, then soap & water...

off topic question how did you get black door trim ? did you just paint it or buy the expensive stuff from down under? I want to get rid of all the chrome on my car yours looks bad ass.

XxXTransAmXxX
05-02-2012, 11:17 PM
The trim you see on the car now is DupliColor's "SHADOW CHROME" kit, but it's been on for about 9mo and the sun's UV rays are lightening it up making it look a lil purple at times. So I am going to order the ShadowLine Blackout vinyl for it

Great post. Do the AC Delco rotors have the aluminum hat? How would these rotors compare to the 2-piece CTS-V rotors? Any differences between the GM calipers and the AC Delco units?

Do you know the difference between the CTS-V and Z06 (Grand Sport) rotors? I'm looking to do this with a '11 Camaro. I've seen people use the Z06 rotors on the Camaro which are substantially cheaper then the CTS-V's.

There is nothing AC Delco about CTS-V2 brakes. They are actually Brembo 6 piston calipers and rotors. The Z06 calipers are PBR, IIRC. The V rotors have the Al hub, the Z rotors do not.
The Z06 rotors are not directionally veined, and are 14" vs. the V 14.5" rotors.

Scoggin Dickey has the V rotors for ~$210 each. Their Z06 rotors are ~$100 each. Both are pretty good deals for what they are (Brembo and GM). Rebuild kits for those calipers are $$$$ right now.

Thanks for the quick reply. I actually just ordered up some 2-piece CTS-V rotors.

Item 7: M14x2.0x40 Flange Bolts (Fastenal) - Qty 4

I take it I would need those for the Camaro install as well? Are these longer, shorter or larger than the stock caliper bolts?

Actual 2 piece V rotors are expensive.

I don't know anything about the bolts or Camaro conversions other than seeing a complete kit on Scoggin-Dickey for the Camaro.

How do you remove the cross over tube on the front calipers?

I need to swap the cross over tube to the other end so I can run them on an 04 GTO

rocket69GTP
03-16-2013, 10:24 PM
^^^Use a line wrench to crack the nuts loose on the cross over tube and remove the bleeder screws from the other side and switch them. I had to do this with the CTS-V rears on my G8.
