I have been outta the game for about 4 years, just got a 02 SOM Ws6 with only 51k miles on it yesterday...

Anyway, on the way to a crawfish boil the drivers side sail panel speaker blows out. ( AC/DC at moderate volume) The head unit is an aftermarket Kenwood fold out dvd screen. If im not mistaken, the speakers are 2 ohm correct? What kinda sound will I get with a 4 ohm, 2-way 6.5 speaker? Eventually I will be adding a 4 channel amp to power the front components and the sails. (I will be disconnecting the hatch speakers.) I found these at Best Buy, any input on them? Im not looking to win any sound competitions, just have clear sound when I turn up my music. I listen to mostly rock, with the occasional Reggae or Country.

Thanks in advance guys. Comments on the car would be appreciated as well.

You want a DVC midbass cone, but I've pretty much given up trying to tell people not to put cheap 2-way 6.5"s back there.

or the new CDT HD-6M DVC 6.5" Subwoofers (sailpanels)
If you're running off the stock monsoon amp, you're only sending bass to the sails.

have you ever heard them....?? they suck. they are total pieces of shit.
Kee audio is great, legit, and provides us with good packages but these are total crap.
theres lots of good options out there. no need to limit your choices.

ok....il agree there. but i just bought a complete stereo....a buddy had those in a 01 TA. was not impressed, didnt even like them when he faded out the sub, front, etc.
we listened to each part of the system and was the weak link in my eyes. I thought the car sounded best with just componets + a sub. no need for other shit

x2 if your planning on upgrading audio in the future anyways, just disconnect the blown "sub" and leave it until you can afford a nice 8 or 10 real sub that will take some power and be in a box that can support BASS rather than infinate baffle 6.5's mounted in stock locations. when a sub is in a box it's going to be able to get ldown ower and extend up to higher frequencies, hit tighter, and handle more power which is key. no snese in messing around with 6.5" sub, just a total waist. 6.5 is almost too small for midbass let alone a sub.
I'm glad you already realized that rear speakers are a waist! I put together a little system for ya using product I've come to find as the best bang for buck around but not low dollar budget by anymeans, this is all nice gear.
a JL 10w3 in a stealth box $250
an Alpine MRX-F65 amp $350 (110x2 @4 ohms + 320x1 @ 4 ohms bridged)
a Hertz ESK165 comps $225 (JL C3-650 2nd choice, JL C2-650 3rd choice)
wiring, speaker brackets $ 75 (4 guage)
Total: $900 thats alot of stereo for under a grand.

I was thinking 10w3 before I even found that preloaded box, its a decent deal too. I really like Hertz components, they're so tonally diverse and crisp and clear with tons of midbass so theirs no reason to go with anything else IMHO. Focal Polyglass line would be nice for the music you like as well, they're on clearance everywhere right now because they're being replaced.

i will be getting rid of my alpine type s 's in the sails i have. i just un plugged the wiring to them. i have Diamond audio D1 componets in the doors (got them for $70bux so i had to) and a arc sub from DD. 50 watts to the front, 170-180 to the sub and couldnt be happier.

Thank you for all the great info guys. I am fully aware of what a 10 in sub will do, as I had one in my old Ws6. I was looking for a temp fix so I could crank the volume up right now, without having to hear the blown sail speaker. Since I will be adding a 4 chan amp later, I will just disconnect the sail speakers for the time being.

My drivers side just blew a few weeks ago. Is this a plug and play type or do I have to do some wiring to get it mounted in?

I would like to know the same thing. I also have seen on some older posts that the holes do not line up and that you have to drill new ones. Is this still the case, or do they line up now?

do these work good if i have just a aftermarket headunit? rewired and no factory amp?

I bought a set of Kicker 6.5" subs that are 2ohm. I installed them the same time I put in a set of 6.5" infinities in the doors and 4" co-axil pioneers in the hatch. I still have the stock head unit/amp. Everything sounds so much better
Anyways, there is plenty of bass and on most songs, the bass is in the center ("0"). Heavier bass songs, I actually have to turn it down otherwise it overpowers everything else. I have felt my seats vibrate with this setup.
Is it the low low low bass from a 12 or 10" sub, no, but does it sound great without adding a bigger sub, bigger amp, running wires all over the place. Sure. I did the 10" in a stealth box in my TA. Granted it sounded great, my current setup sounds damn good too. I wouldn't change it and I don't miss the 10" sub setup at all.
Just giving my $.02

No, nothing except factory replacement speakers will plug into the factory harness. They mount the same but you will have to do your own wiring connections. The best way is to cut the connector off the factory speakers and solder to the replacement speaker... then it will plug into the factory harness.

They are super easy to install. I bought the CDT HD-6M DVC 6.5" Subwoofers
and am so happy I did. I tried other ones in the stock location and these blew them all away. Sounds awesome with my aftermarket deck and monsoon system. Very glad I did my research before buying.
