So after I got my cam and tune done, numbers not what I was hopping. Tuner said my home made exhaust was killing me. So I decided to try something, I cut the back section off, put my 1 chambers at the reared! It's not the best looking setup, they just don't belong there. BUT... WOW, I am not kidding it's a hole new car! I was pitting out 432hp 424tq and he said I should be around 450.... Well I bet it is now! I can't believe how much faster the car is, it picked up power everywhere, low end and top end! The sound is crazy freaking loud when I punch it now but still decent at a cruise.

Dumps are good. Saves a lot of weight, too. I've got classic chambered 26" chambered pipes after the X and dumped right at the pumpkin.

Its just common sense. The stock mufflers have baffles and packing to dampen the noise, that stuff restricts the flow. The exhaust itself is very good, 2.5 inch duals all the way back with an H-pipe. From what I understand people are picking up the same power with an axle back kit(mufflers with enough pipe to connect to the stock system) as they are with a full after market catback exhaust. I think it would only be necessary to upgrade to headers and highflow cats to see large gains and an upgrade to larger diameter piping would probably only be needed with FI or stroker applications.

It might make sense and I agree but these cars have been around a while and I have not seen any track or dyno proof.

There's tons of research on this fact.....including minimal gains with cut outs.
If the OP gained 20 RWHP from this mod I'll blow him in front of god & country.
By the way...I saw the car run 12.9 @ 114 yesterday.
Your trap is right in line with your tuners dyno #s.
PS = I made 470 rwhp in my cammed 10' SS with Kooks LTs & hi flow cats and a SLP LMII Axle back.

My car ran 12.8@113.3 on saturday. I had 3 runs with a 1 bog, 1 spin and a 1 wheel hop. Could not drive........but beat a 5.0 on the first 2 runs so I feel better.

I'll be doing the same only with bullets dumped at the axle.
I already pm'ed mpd-1 on C5 and they will fab me up a smooth rear valance with no exhaust outlets so it doesnt look so goofy without tips.

Ya I was having traction problem all day first time with the cam, and also ran 3 12.7s with a best of 12.72 and 114.7-9 MPH on a 2.2-3 60ft.... Ill line up with your vette any day of week bud. Ill have 12.3s @ 115-116 on street tires before the end of the year!

First off, Dan made a few passes in the car and BROKE it before I could drive it that day. The next week the engine blew so I NEVER got to make a pass in it with all the suspension work and drag radials on it. I'm pretty sure I know how to drive.

Anyways...do you know he has a very small cam that uses stock springs? I think he picked up about ~20hp over a bolt on car.
Should be a good race against a bolt on c5.

My 12 1SS weighs 3840 wouldn't take much to get it to 3600. It traps 111 bone stock with a bit of tinkering 112 shouldn't be a problem. With a set of 4.33s mid 12s easy

I've already been mid 12's with a 423 rwhp 5th gen. It took me ported TB and intake, U/D pulley, headers, catless mids, SLP mufflers, Roto-Fab CAI, Spohn toe link and trailing arms and a Dyno tune. Last Sunday my Vette did almost the same ET at 1 mph faster with a basic tune, corsa CB that was on the car when I bought it and an ET street radial. I'm probably close to 100 rwhp down in the Vette. Weight is a killer on these cars.

My car was running 12.6-12.7 at 111-112 with just the headers, no tune, no intake, nothing else! My car is definetly harder to drive now... there is no way his header and tuned C5 vette cant run mid 12s without tires, he wants a real race and let it go down to driving then he will run me on street tires. If not, hes scared he cant drive... my C5 vette went 12.9s with nothing but a muffler delete.
