Gears & Axles - Another 10 bolt dead, with pics

Figured since everyone loves pictures I would post mine up. Although it isn't to bad, just the spider gears went. The 4.10 gears ironically seem perfectly fine.. so I'm just swapping the carrier.

I love 10 bolt carnage.

I'm just amazed that the ring and pinion seem to be perfectly fine haha

Out of curiosity, what were the symptoms that led to this?
My diffs whining at 50ish mph... :)

my 10 bolt looked exactly like that when it blew up, my gears were fine also.

mine grenade about 2 weeks ago...just waiting on the MWC rear to get here so i can swap it out. Im hoping my gears are fine, ill sell them.

Recent weeks when pulling out slowly or going around a turn slowly it would almost lockup for a millasecond or something. As if I had a spool, prob. because the teeth were already chipped at that point on the spider gears. When I was doing a run and went to grab 4th it just died, guess it couldn't handle the pressure from the chirping of tires or what would be again. Just cause it's whining doesn't mean it's going to go, could be gears if you changed them recently? I would suggest just changing the gear oil, maybe go thicker to like 90w140 and put the additive in. That should quiet it up.

H/C setup was done in 2009, since then I would say I put around 25k on the car. USED 4.10 Gears were installed in 2010.

I did the same thing to my 10 bolt last nov!

Spider gears crunched, only for me what did it was "leaving the car in 1st gear" coasting around in a parking garage letting the engine keep the car speed. It snapped in the turn and then felt like the rear was "clicking" when turning tight and triggering differential between the wheels.

3.90 gears, used, installed 3 years ago. Replaced the carrier and all has been well. Funny how weak the size of the rear makes it.

im still trying to be nice for my break in period clutch and such, then i plan on doing mine ....sweet.....!!!!

Just curious, did you have a bearing cap stud kit & rear axle girdle cover, if not would it have prevented the failure? Thanks

This is what happened to me this past saturday at the track. The 10 bolt bit the dust in the burnout box, I didnt even get one pass in:bang:

Ouch! looks like it chewed your axle, what kind of HP/TRQ u making? F*CK! after seeing all this carnage I'm having nightmares now of rollin through the burnout box- Launching then BAM! It's done. I want at least a couple of passes after my motor breaks in! I'm thinking 15" wheels and Drag radials will surely make quick work of the 10 bolt.

At your power level, yes. I wouldn't even trust it with anything other than rolling into it off the line. I'm stock and I'm paranoid about the rear...

Why hasnt somebody started a thread with pic of what everybody has blown up on their 10 bolt?

Im at 401rwhp and 390tq NA and on spray well over 500. I was on some 295/55/16 MT DRs and had the tire pressure set at 20, I new it was coming lol
