Street Racing & Kill Stories - Chased down an srt8 today...

leaving work and a coworker has a 2009 srt8 challenger. we pull up to a light with me behind him. i'm hoping he's going to get it but, not sure as he's kind of a laid back guy. the light goes green and he slowly pulls away to about 20mph and then stabs it...kinda caught me by surprise as i thought he wasn't going to go. he was about 2 cars out when i nailed it and stopped his pull. i started closing the gap to about a car length at about 100 and was getting ready to change lanes and go around him when he hit the brakes. pulled up along side him and he said i wasn't going to catch him anyway...lol. i told him i was reeling him in and was about to go around him when he hit the brakes. he had to turn off so, i'll talk to him some more about it on monday. i thought the old LT1 ran pretty darn good...i was pleasantly surprised.can't wait for a rematch cause the dyno tune and nitrous are getting hooked up in the next couple weeks..then i can really surprise him...

Doesn't surprise me. When I ran a SRT8 300 it was pretty much a joke, even with me on horrible tires.

thanks guys...my car has 145,000 and minimal mods so, i was pretty happy with the results. and it definitely moved up the nitrous and tune date...lol.

103 is probably mid 13's in the 1/4 mile. SRT-8's are good for mid to low 13's in the 1/4 mile. But if it's a manual, ,he's gotta be a good driver to hit low 13's. My guess is it's a drivers race...should be really close if you guys get a fair race.

4,154 lbs is what I'm seeing with a quick Google search on the Challenger.

Thew new 6.4 Challengers solved the weight problem. Showed you can be extremely fast in a boat, 12.6 1/4 mile all day in the new 392's. Shuts down the Camaro SS and Mustang GT, but for almost $20,000 more.

i love the ls1 but. i can't afford to buy one. i actually traded an 89 GT for this car so, for now this is what i have to roll with...lol. she's my daily driver so, if i can put her firmly in the 12's i'll be pretty happy.

thanks snake. i like to think i'm pretty well rounded. i can appreciate a car no matter who made it. my Trans Am is a great car and i love it but, i really miss my coupe. The Trans Am is a nicer car but, my coupe was a much more enjoyable car.

The fastest times show what the car is capable of in ideal conditions. There have been a handful of people who ran 12.7's and 12.8's in bone stock 6.1's. In stock form the 6.1 is behind the 5.0 and dead even with the 10''ss depending on who you ask. I dont race from magazines like some of these guys.

Heres another 6.1 running in the 12's bone stock. They are plenty capable of doing it but most drivers cant.

Saying they get beat by a 5.0 doesnt mean theyre slow for 425hp. The 5.0 is 41xHP in a 3600lb shell vs 425hp in a 4200lb shell. Of course its faster, going by the numbers it should be a TON faster but its not.

As for the 5th gens, with all things being equal the LS3 is a tick faster and the 6.1 is a tick faster than the L99. Again not bad considering its the same power as a LS3 with 400 more lbs!!!

I dont get the arguments about weight and engine size. Dodge decided to go with more horsepower and not shed weight down....its all the same as going light weight with a smaller displacement engine.

Some dyno's are showing the 392 underrated as well. Closer to 500-515hp instead of 470

6.1's are NOT 110mph cars all day long. Have they done it stock?? Yes but its not east feat. The 392's deserve to be called 110+mph cars all day long even tho ive seen a few trap less.

i was just bumping around on the challengertalk board and they were talking quarter mile times with an srt8 and a 6 speed. there were some nice numbers but on average, with a stock car i kept seeing 13.6 @104.

people that put down automatics just have never really raced with a good one. i used to think they sucked. till i drove the shops camaro with a turbo400 and trans brake. that fucker launched just as hard as a clutch car, and i was a LOT more consistent on my reaction times.

exactly..you also don't have the slop you sometimes get with so so drivers shifting and the possibility of a missed gear. rowing the gears is awesome but, an auto is consistent.

Lol. Not totally 100% on the 393 cars, but the 392s are certainly underrated. Either that or they have transmissions that were graced by the same hand of God that graced the ls1. Take your pick :P. They would rather under shoot than end up with what happened to Ford so few years ago I guess. Never aim high unless you can plant it, probably a good motto to go by.

Im going by 15% drivetrain loss.

Yep 87 GN. She does alright.. Put down a little less than what I expected.. But I ran it through my exhaust, did not lock the converter, and it was PIG RICH. Going to lean it out, add some timing, uncap the dump, and lock the converter next time :D. I am still pretty happy with how it did.

V6 with Turbo.. Just how it is I guess haha. I was told it is normal for these cars to have a bit more torque than HP.. It might be a little high. It was my first ever dyno haha.
