I'm currently rebuild my 4L60E since I had it out doing a full rebuild of the engine. I got this kit (http://www.summitracing.com/parts/TCI-379110/) from Summit. And during the rebuild, I was following the book, and online(As I'm stumped) because I'm left over with a unused steel. It goes in the last pack in the drum. Is this normal? Or did I miss something?

Please help. :bang:

How many steels and clutches did ur kit have for that set? What ur speaking of should b the 3/4 clutches. And if so u want that set snug with the clutches wet. if its not u will burn them up.

That set has 9 Frictions and 8 Steels starting with a friction ending with a friction. I followed this assembly for the last set to key: http://myoffroad.auto.officelive.com/4L60ETransmissionRebuild.aspx

So your tci set came with 9 frictions and 9 steels all for the 3-4 clutch pack? You should have one less steel in your assembled 3-4 clutch pack. If this is the case, does it measure differently then any of the other steels? maybe to adjust the clearance of the assembled pack. would be my only guess.

What book are you using? I found the atsg book out dated on several things, enough to pull out your hair at times. I have a pdf of the gm manual, if you want it, send me your email in a pm.BTW im no expert just doing my first rebuild as well.

Have you given any thought on putting a beast sunshell and replacing the foward sprag while you in there? Just two common weak points.

I actually called tci and the extra steel is for the older 4l60e
