I was on my way home after stopping by jimmy johns. I pull up next to a guy probably in his 50's with a shiny new C6 corvette. We drive normally for the next 3 or 4 stop lights. Once we get to a spot in the road that goes from 2 lanes down to one, we pull up to the white line and wait for the light to turn.

Since this guy wasn't driving to hard, I figured we weren't going to race. Then he drops it down a gear so I know whats up. I decide to smash the gas on my A4 TA with bolt ons and some suspension. I hooked up and had probably half a car length before we reached the one lane. So from about a 40 mph roll, and about an 1/8 mile of road, I smoked grandpa with his mid-life-crisis-mobile. :nod:

Maybe not but the key word here is well driven. They range from mid 12' to mid 11's @ 115 to 120mph in the 1/4 stock.

I thought the stock ls3 motors ran mid to high 12's? Usually I can squeeze a 12.9 if everything goes perfectly, so If I get grandpa in his vette that doesn't know how to drive a stick, kinda seems like a fair fight. But maybe i'm crazy.

And Im driving the trans am this week because my other car needs some work, so it's in the shop. Once it's finished I will try to find out what the knock is.

I talked to my dads mechanic about that knock. He was busy so he didn't look at it too much, but he hinted we could build a badass motor for around $7000.... Not saying I have a new motor, but if I keep trying to race vettes, she's bound to quit sooner or later lol.

Yea built engine for 7k but your going to need a lot more cash then that to play... Yes you'll have a built engine but your stock drive train won't support it.. It's always wise to do bolt ons, then build your drivetrain and then work on your engine

I'm not taking anything away from the C5Z06 at all. That's one of my favorite cars. To be honest from what i've seen at the track around here I didn't think they could run mid 12's like that. Every stock one i've seen was in the low 13's@110+mph

Stock vs stock a c5z both drivers being equal the c5z is just as fast or faster than a c6 ls2. That is a fact. But an ls3 c6 should be quicker by a few mph trap speed wise everytime. You guys must remember that the c5z comes with only the more agressive shorter geared mn12 gears, which are the same ratios as the mz6 gears that only comes with the z51 option on the regualar c6 and standard on the grand sport.

Real world results are not what the Magazines are doing with there professional drivers? They got better results than anybody I ever saw running there C5Z stock. You can't put on a set of M/T's and say this is stock. If you wana do that then run them other vetts with sticky tires and see what happens! The LS2-3 Vetts simply make more torque..

No I’m not saying that! Don't be so sensitive. All I'm saying is I wouldn't go by posted results like the one you showed. I would go by what the magazines are saying because they don't have anything to gain by posting inflated numbers... And they drive the car completely stock right down to the stock tires with professional drivers...

It shows the best world results instead of some guy that throws a set of Hoosiers on the car and takes it to the track getting higher #'s..

I don't believe the LS2 vette's came with a A6 tranny. I don't think they start putting the A6 in the vette until 2008 with the LS3..

With them going to the A6 tranny wouldn't that make them faster than the 2005 A4 model? Also you are comparing seat of the pants M6 shift the car yourself vs seat of the pants auto results.. No Auto car feels like it's pulling as hard as M6 car would.

Back in 1998 when I had a my 1997 TT Toyota Supra. I had a few minor mods done to it. The car made 480rwhp. I took a friend of mine that had a 1997 S-trim supercharged Mustang for a ride in it and he said it felt slow compaired to his car that dynoed somewhere around 360-390rwhp. We raced from a 30-40mph roll and I beat him by 4-5 cars by 130mph. Funny thing was his car had a better E.T. than mine did at the track but I had more mph..

No matter how you look at it, I they by no means "a LOT faster" and I'll argue with you all day that its gonna be a dead even race.

i'd betcha that those labeled as "bone stock" were running drag radials, and those labeled as "showroom stock" were nhra legal, but not truly showroom stock.

So anyways, I was looking at Magazine results, and it just doesn't seem like the answer because even your "professional driver" couldn't hook a car with 405 at the crank and ran a slower time than the 01 in an 02? And all the sudden that's a credible source? Over someone like Ranger who has been in the game forever, and has had several corvettes and almost always posts top times? And then for a bunch of others to come in there and post close times to that, I just don't know what else you want from a test group, because I would believe people in magazines are more apt to lie due to some bribery over some guys posting their time slips. But this argument could go on forever.

Looking more into this since it has gotten some more attention, I would say from a roll it would be close (ls3 would edge by 1-2 mph) and at the track, I'm going to stand by everyone else's results and say its gonna be neck and neck.

I would go by what the magazines are saying because they don't have anything to gain by posting inflated numbers... And they drive the car completely stock right down to the stock tires with professional drivers...

It shows the best world results instead of some guy that throws a set of Hoosiers on the car and takes it to the track getting higher #'s..

I see your point. But I personally think there is some inflation in automagazines. Even IF (im not getting involved in the C5 vs C6 argument just using it as an example) the C5z06 is faster than the LS2 C6 the magazines are going to nudge it up just a hair so they can rave about the all new C6 and the base models epic performance over the uber performance oriented older model. They do this 1- not to piss off GM so they can get models to review and 2- to help spur sales.

I meant no harm and appologize for that. All bullshit aside my oppion of a real world stock race between the 2 would be very close with a slight edge going to the LS2 vette.. Or the ones that tested the Mustang GT500 and got a 12.6 1/4 mile.

Hell, I recently watched a video showing the 2011 Camaro SS being faster with a 13.0 1/4 mile to the 2011 Mustang GT's 13.1 1/4 mile. Those Mustangs are ALL capable of high 12's, just like all LS1 Camaro's are capable of low 13's. Unfortunately, those magazines are not always that accurate.

Well I've ran an LS2 vette when my c5z was bone stock down to the paper air filter and goodyear tires. It was a roll race and it looked like a guy in his 30's. It was lowered with some nice black wheels, dark blue color. I didn't smoke him but I put a couple lengths on him. C5Z is an overall better car IMO than an LS2 C6. I'm not trying to hurt anybody's feelings. If I didnt think so, I would have one. C5Z handles better, its faster and lighter. Anyways this argument is over in the corvette section...back on topic...

On magazine times, with some exceptions (Edmunds Inside Line--I don't think those guys can drive--Times are always slow) they seem to closely reflect what the average driver does at the track. Magazines get low 14s in something like a 350Z or 2005-2008 Mustang, Solstice GXP, and that's really close to what I see people do in those cars at the track. Most LS1 F-bodies, C5 Corvettes and LS2 GTOs run high 13s. There are always guys who can't drive or won't drive the cars hard and they're slower, but there are always good drivers who run faster, sometimes a lot faster.

Having flirted with the idea of buying a Vette numerous times over the years (Wife always says having any 2-seat car is too impractical) I can say this. The A6 in the LS2 Vettes sucked, and the 2005 A4 probably is faster. The A6 that came with LS3 Vettes was a MAJOR improvement over the tranny in the 06-07 models.

That's possible. I can only say how the bone stock cars shifted and the 08+ A6 gave much firmer and quicker shifts.
