What license/paperwork is needed to be able to drive a ute here in the US(texas)
how much would it cost? I have some saved up so when I sell the ss I can get a z06 but rather have the ute

so was I :jest:

There was actually an article in C&D or R&T or one of the other car mags where they were talking about bringing over the Ute and in the article it said "they'd have to come up with another name for it because in the US you can't say Ute without sounding like Joe Pesci in My Cousin Vinny"

You run into the same problems people trying to bring skylines and other cars in. Title issues, safety, and emissions equipment and requirements, and takes plenty of cash.

In short, dont hold your breath.

i remember reading somewhere that a guy picked up a wrecked holden ute and a g8 that was totaled from a hit from the rear and put them together and registered it CA of all places

Well I have personally seen the GTO Ute. It isnt hard at all to make it legal here. After all the GTOs arent made here. As far as I know he just imported it and registered it after adding a front clip. The frame is the same as is the body minus the bed. As far as safety If anything is needed it should transfer over. And regarding the skyline comment there is only 1 generation you cannot register over here, I believe the R34 is the one you cant, anything earlier is fair game.

Why cant america ever get the cool cars?

This would solve my problem of having to choose between my truck and my camaro.. I could sell them both and get the aussie el camino!

srsly tho.. it's probably not very heavy, has a realtively short wheel base for it's size, and is packing lsx power.. on top of that it would turn heads like mad from people trying to figure out what it is AND would land you in a lot of car shows without any mods needed to get show attention.

what's not to want??

Why cant america ever get the cool cars?

Because the average American is an idiot who thinks a car is an appliance and driving is a chore. For every cool Holden you see in OZ, you probably see one less Toyota.

Why cant america ever get the cool cars?

Because a certain movement has turned the general public against cars like this (RWD V8 sports cars).:bs: That's why.

yea man for sure, i put my R1 on the back and take it to and from race meetings around the country, tow my jet ski with it and you dont even notice your pulling anything behind it, comes down to what the rear shocks are rated for as they are independent rear suspension..

Ute's are fucking awesome.

There's a guy out here that has one registered as a GTO, another one that's a 4 door registered as a G8.

They make contractor versions of the Ute in Australia with steel wheels, no options, hose it out interior, etc.

Its a pretty decent hauler from what I've gathered, but I'd imagine the performance versions with their low profile tires and suspension tuned for handling aren't rated as high in payload or towing as the more truckish versions.

But then again I'm no expert on the options, they may offer a tow mule version with an LS3 that's rated for like 7000-8000lbs.:jest: My older than dirt Cadillac is rated to tow 7000lbs, so I'd imagine properly configured Ute can haul and tow as much as your half ton truck.
