General Maintenance & Repairs - what is this redlight for (not security light)

onmy 98 z28, there was a red light located right by the trunk release button......my 2000 ssdoes not have this light......my buddy now has my z28, and he said he looked doen and saw it was on for like two seconds then went away....what is it?

sounds like an led for an aftermarket alarm that is or used to be on the car.
I don't think there's any light there from factory.

there isnt an afterarket alarm on the car.....he said it came on while driving

cant it in my friends car, located miles away......looks identicle to the security light on the dasy, but located a few inches to the right of the yellow hatch release button

It's nothing that came stock, at least in the US.

ITS AFTERMARKET.....period.
