I'm new to the LS Motors and would like to do the swap over in my 73 Nova. What is the best motor to start with? I would like my 3300lb car to run in the 9.70 range and possibly spray it to the 8's and drive it on the street?? I want to stay carbureted. What is the best LS motor/combo to acheive this?

More cubes = more HP/TQ....but smaller LS motors have done it.

Can't seem to get any of the links to work? I was considering the LY6 as a starting point? Possibly stroke it?

A well built 408/416 at that weight will run hi nines and not be anything special in terms of build
Id say keep it right at 12-1
mid 250int -260 ex lobe 670 lift comp huc lobe
TFS 245 cathedral port head w opt nos exhaust port
supervici ntake w 1000hp carb
good 3 speed with correct converter and 4.10 gear
That should run nines(9.80-9.65) on motor pretty easily and would prob need to be sprayed about 225-250hp to run about a sec quicker
