What's up guys, first off I'm not a noob on this forum, but I figured this is where I should put this thread. Anyways I've been looking to upgrade to an LS1 ever since I sold my 95 LT1 :bang: back in May 11'.
I came across this on craigslist, I'm going to check it out tomorrow.

Also here is his ad from cars.com. It has more pictures

He said he'd let her go for 7500. Which seems like a pretty good deal to me. The transmission really doesn't scare me, I have experience rebuilding them. Just wondering what you guys think about it? Also transmission wise what kind of rebuild kit should I look at? I'd like to upgrade it internally, nothing heavy, forks, synchros, etc, if anyone knows of a good place to get a kit let me know. Also I'll be replacing the clutch as well so any advice there would help.
Also! How do I tell if it's a true SS, not that I'm doubting the guy, but better safe then sorry, right? Let me know what you guys think :chug:

Sounds beaten and like a potential 'money pit' even if you are good at fixing things yourself. He won't get $6,000 for that car with a bad tranny. Most people aren't even going to consider it. If you still are going, give him a low offer and he will call you back after he realizes the real world situation.

I was afraid of seeing a reply like this. The only trouble is I would be giving him 4k down until I get the difference in a month or so. So I feel like trying to get him down would be just wrong. What kind of price is it worth?

ive seen this car on craiglist and considered making an offer for a while now, looks clean from the pics but i cant bring myself to pay that much considering i bought my heads cam 2000 ss with 75k on it for 7500 needing nothing... yea i know thats a steal but seems like unless its something mint or out of the ordinary you shouldnt have to pay more than that for a car that doesnt need much.

a real SS has WU8 code on the door, this rebuild kit looks good: http://www.thegearbox.org/catalog/item/3838217/7824166.htm

and i had a diamond stage 2 in my car which was incredibly easy to drive, also had a monster stage 3 which was a bit aggressive for daily usage eventhough i did it. Both will hold very well

I just got back. The car is clean clean clean and more clean, the paint is mint with the ordinary rock chips here and there. The engine runs flawless, and honestly you wouldnt know it had trans problems. I didn't go into 5th because I didn't want to chance it. But I had it to 90 no problem in 4th and the car was solid. It comes with a bunch of stuff that I don't want but I can probably sell. He has a tuner for it and some other device I don't want. I believe in dynotuning and nothing else, not of that hypertech crap. He's also giving me 2 brand new mickey thompson drag radials mounted on the same ZR1 wheels thats on the car.
I gave him 4k down (I should be able to bring it home in the next month or two). Maybe I made a mistake, maybe I didn't, but the car was deffinetly well cared for and ran like a dream. Fired right up, oil pressure was good, coolant temp was good, all fluids smelled/looked as they should. Brand new Nitto NT555's all around.

And yes that is a true SS car. I took a picture of the door sticker. Thanks for the info. Attached are some pictures

Yeah the only thing that sucks is knowing I gotta take her apart once I get it. It's driveable 1-4 and reverse. I didn't try 5th or 6th but i do know when it was just sitting there idleing, i stuck it in both gears fine. I just dont wanna chance it.
