Drag Racing Tech - Can I expect anything better than a 1.9 60 on street tires?

Full Exhaust, fast 92/92, z06 heads, futral f13 cam, and 4000 stall. I just bought the car last week. 315/35/17 Kumho XS street tires on the rear. First pass was horrible, I tried launching at about 2800-3000 rpm and all I did was spin. (3.2 60 ft) Dropped the pressure to about 25 and cut a 2.2. Last pass, I dropped them to 20 psi, did a good burnout, launched at 2000 rpm, and cut a 1.9. Ran a 8.0 at 92 mph. I didnt make any more passes because it was getting late and I had to be up early for work the next day.

The previous owner says that the car has run a best of 11.3 at 119 in the 1/4 on MT drag radials. I was planning on going back to the track on Sunday to see if I could cut some better 60 ft times, should I even waste my time or wait till I get some drag radials?

It's futile. Get a good set of tires.

With some finesse it can be done. Get some good tires on it and you wouldn't have to worry about it though.

With the power you have, just a waste of time. Get some drag radials.

Ive been 1.7s on 245/16s summer tires. 3500-3800 (keep it under 4K) ride the clutch just right so the motor dosn't get pulled under 4K and bog. You will have a slight wheel speed, (chirping sound) thu 1st gear and 2nd if you hammer it, but not a lot spinning. Talks so seat time but can get done, Big help not racing a loud car. Don't hot lap the car, you have to let it sit 45mins 1hr. No big burnout, don't do a long burnout or of the water, that can put alot of heat in the clutch too. The track is sticky.

You can try again if you want, but honestly a set of tires on the car will make your efforts more worth while.

I wouldn't expect anything consistantly better then the 1.9 you ran. That's probably a best case, anything better then that will be very hit or miss.

And just exactly how do you ride the clutch in an automatic? ; )

Sure you can run on street tires. You have to gradually get into the gas, quickly floor it but not stomp on it. But you'll of course run quicker on a stickier tire.

I just went 1.95 bone stock in a 5th gen, took about 7 tries.

it IS possible to run nasty times on a true radial tire. class rules state treadwear rating of 180 or more and limit tire size. interesting class for sure, but some of the guys really have it figured out...

It's a pain in the ass, but on 275/45/17 Nitto 555 (not drag radials) I've done a 1.59 60ft. Takes some finesse for sure.
