Hey guyz

I own a 2000 T/A WS6 M6
Modes are , forged 347 + H/C/I + Full bolt ons + dual stages of nitrous
'300+150hp'

It's a street use car , It's My 70% daily use car so I use her alot.

I added a 4 point mild steel roll bar 'almost 70lb'

I want to know if It possible to make my car have a 500lb diet with stock suspension , If not, what is the maximum number ?

till now , I'm thinking of:

-Removing the rear seats +front and rear seat belts
-light weight front seats + harness "sparco's , carebou's etc..."
-remove both bumper supports
-remove spare+jack
-add a light weight fibre glass ws6 hood
- WHAT ELSE?
sterio/ radio , power steering , A/C will 'not' go out

waiting....

Everything you mentioned doesn't really weigh much to begin with lol. 500 is a damn lot for a daily driver, your going to need to do alot of work and swapping things like battery for lighter ones. Not to mention the AC prob has to go.

I agree.

Quick search brought up this list, might be halfway helpful if you're really interested in shaving some weight.

Honestly I wouldn't bother unless your looking to make it a drag car more. One time I took out all seats but the driver, and switched my front wheels with light bald 16inch abs's. I didn't even change my quarter mile time lol..

Currently I have all seats in the car with my chrome firehawk wheels. No jack or spare & a light fiberglass hood. I weigh like.. 155lbs and with me in the car it weigh 3630 give or take.

Fuel cell instead of gas tank (hold less liquid weight), lightweight battery, remove all sound deadening, lightweight/forged wheels. Even with all of that you're probably only half-way to your goal (at best).

I don't think you'll be able to remove more than 200-300 pounds before it is no longer a street car.

Thanx all for the replies , lexan glass 'rear' hatch is a good way to reduce too.
Most races are rolling between 40-80mph and a half mile distance.

Not worth it unless u gut everything out....I'm just saying though

Also, if it's your daily use car it wouldn't be worth it to remove the bumper supports. You can regret that decision real quick

Maybe eat some subway Like Jared?
500lbs is a big number to just take out of there.
Best of Luck!

Also if you are going to drive the car daily, you may want to have a spare tire. I'm just saying... It might be worth the extra 30-40 pounds than paying for a tow.

Honestly I would be careful about how much you take out and really decide if its actually worth it. Reminds me of a few guys who I used to race with and they were so caught up in running good numbers when they went to the track every month or two that they modded it so far that they eventually sold the car because it was no longer fun to drive on the street in addition to having reliability issues. I had a car that was pretty heavily modded/striped but I realized that I have the most fun just driving on the street and although I go to the track every now and then that one 10 second run isn't worth having a nice DD to enjoy everyday. So I sold it a few years ago and got something more stockish, but at the end of the day its all in what you want out of the car.

leave it a street car.. that thing has to be quick i wouldn't bother with the 500 lbs its not a track car.

in my race turbo grandprix i removed everything....dash, carpet, seats, ac, ducts, window motors...and it was still my DD

IT SUCKED AS A DD, BUT it was quite fast:burn::burn:

Thanx all for the replies...

You'r all right with the points you've said...

All what I want is to be at the same weight as the corvettes. street racing them are hard!

you could replace parts with equivalent parts that weigh less, but that will get expensive quick.

500lbs just is not going to happen as everyone said, unless your spending alot of money to replace everything with lighter versions of themselves or doing some intense stripping.

instead of removing weight, add more spray. its a forged motor. if its a wet kit, feed it with a fuel cell and C16. you'll keep pump gas in your tank, but the fuel cell will be insurance for the extra spray

500 lbs = .5 in the 1/4

50 shot = .5 in the 1/4

500 lbs = .5 in the 1/4

50 shot = .5 in the 1/4

as you go faster, that 50 shot goes a lot slower. going from 12.0 to 11.50 is pretty common with a 50 shot. Going 10.50 to 10.0 is gonna take more

I've been toying with a "Street" weigh reduction list.

-Tubular K-Member
-Light wheels
-Lightweight Back hatch glass
-Removal of Spare Tire/Jack
-Fiberglass hood
-Carbon Fiber Driveshaft
-Shop for Lighter tires (something a ton of people overlook)
-Cloth manual seats (if you have leather)
-Remove sound deadening under the carpet
-EGR/AIR removal

All of those things could be done and should be bearable on the street.

Even all that is no where near 500lbs haha

Yeah, I know. But it would be a couple hundred pounds that really wouldn't effect the daily-drivability/comfort of the car.

Taking the A/C out would probably be a must if you want to lose 500lbs.

Lets say the average 4th Gen weighs 3400lb and the average stock power out put is roughly 310hp. So if you take 3400/310 you get 10.96, or lets round up to 11 to keep things simple. Mathematically, every 11 pounds you remove off of the car is essentially equivalent to adding 1hp. Keep in mind these are rough initial figures though. ;)

Thanx everybody for the replies really appreciate it and sorry for the late relpy .

Latch: It's a well explained example , but I already spray nearly a 450hp shot lol , do you mean adding to 500hp shot will be the perfect idea ? LOL! Thanx ;)

WOW!
but what if my car is a 700 hp car
3700/700 = 5.285sec < I wish that was real LOL! ;p
loved you'r simple calculation !
so a 110lb = 10hp! NICE!

i dont know how much i stripped out ( wieght wise) but its barley a dd. i stripped everything from all interior, carpet. dash. denated pads. all seat replace the fronts with light ones. no head liner, no door panels put v6 manual windows in, no spare, no ac, no heater, no duct work and stripped all the wire out ( every wire) and replace them with my own to make it street legal head lights , blinkers, wipers, brake lights, liecence plate light, also light wheels. no bumper absorbers. ect but i would not do it again if i had a choose. its light but ugly to me. but its still a dd. if i remember right i took out 650lb but added some back to it

pretty much the only thing in my car is a 10 point cage. 2 aftermarket seats and two 10 point harness and maybe 10 wire to make it legal. and my aftermarket gauges and a ice box.

Lol the manual window mechanisim in fbodys weighs more than the electric setup.

tt383lt1
05-06-2012, 01:37 PM
actually there 2.7 lbs more than the manual ones. and i had no wires to run the so eather i had to run seperat wires the switchs or just switch to manual

idk why the electric would wiegh more because they have a motor in them. then switches, wires.

Taking you'r whole car out would be a better idea LOL..
It's a Very NICE thing to get 650lb away from the car! but again... you took simply everything from the car haha!
I'm planning on replacing the body with somthing lighter , first step is a light weight fibre glass hood , second step is the lexan rear hatch , sealed with an OEM rubber sealing. hmmmmm what else ?

Thanx for the reply !
