I kept my stock tank and put a sump in it. If you can weld or have access to someone who can, it's a fairly cheap solution. There are expensive tanks you can buy, or a fuel cell will work too. My sump was $50.

I am going the grand national tank route. The down side from what Ive read is it isnt the easy to fill up due to the bends in the filler neck needed to make it work in the chevelle. Basically you get a tank from the GN, cut the filler neck and add a "S" hose to locate the neck in the stock location. The upside to the tank is that it is baffled and bolts right in. I picked up a brand new tank with straps and the correct sending off of ebay for a little under $200 and I already had a Walbro 255. unit It is also 17 gallons compared to the stock 20. Another good option is the 94-96 Impala SS tank, but it requires cutting a hole in the trunk.

I have a 95 Impala tank, It is a blt bigger in size and capacity (23 gal) but it fits. I am using the Racetronix pump and wiring kit for the B-Body. I've had mine running for 6 year with only one minor problem, my bulkhead connector went bad, I just fixed it and was back on the road in no time.
The plus is that the sender is 0-90 ohm, well work with most older GM cars (50-70's for sure), it is baffled for EFI, Filler next is in the correct location and only minor mod to the next is needed.
Con's, it is bigger tank and does hang down a bit in the rear.
This is a quick and easy swap. But the GN is a good option as well as the Tanksinc kit for your stock tank. Any of the later full size B-body can work with the exception of the Wagon tank. ie. Buick Roadmaster tank, it doesn't have to be a SS tank, I beleive that the non SS would have a lower capacity pump, but your going to want to change that anyway.
I looked at the 4th Gen Bucket setup. But it is to deep, some have shorten it to work on a less deep thank. You can get a kit to mount the sender from Vetteworks. They sell a ring kit.
The 5th Gen F-Body is a good setup, Vaporworx market the parts to convert one into a tank.

Impala SS, works great, added BBK 255 lph pump. Yes it requires cutting trunk floor, but it is worth it. Tank and sender cost $50.00 from local wrecking yard delivered to the shop.

Spectra gas tank. I used a Spectra efi tank in my 72 Chevelle. Goto SPectra's site first to get part number then check with rockauto.com or amazon.com. I got mine for $350 and that includes the sender with delphi electric fuel pump. They should make them for all years and look pretty much like an original tank but with baffles inside. Sender works perfect too. Intake pumps run quieter and cooler.

Spectra updated baffle I spoke with Spectra yesterday(4/26/2012) about the fuel starvation issue. They said it was most common with the Camaro tank and the Chevelle tank does use the same baffle. They have since updated the baffle by adding a secondary baffle within the original to control fuel slosh which is the root cause of the fuel starvation. They also stated that the pumps would sometimes prematurely fail due to an internal defect. They recommended using ACDelco AP-381 as a replacement as they are made by a differant vendor than the supplied Delphi unit in their tanks.
I am currently pursing a replacement tank since I am still covered under their one year warranty. My Chevelle did stall once on a hard corner when I had less than 1/4 tank of gas.
Recommend that if purchasing one of these tank you remove the sending unit and check for the second baffle before using it to be certain you have the revised tank. Otherwise it is a good quality piece at a reasonable price.

So a gn tank & an impala or caprice tank from 94-96 will work? Or will any tank from the B body line work that looks like the 94 model?
I have a welded sump in my stock tank like shown in 99vettes pic. How low can we go on fuel until we starve the pump? Also I'm sure the external pump is loud but we gotta do what we gotta do. I want to do the gn route as I want a quiet pump but well see.
