After owning my C5Z and Supra for a few years I decided it was time for a change. A few weeks ago I sold both of my cars and picked up an 09 Nissan GT-R. This car to me is exactly what I was looking for in a car.

You would be suprised by how much smoother these cars are than a C5Z or a Supra. This car has excellent throttle response, awesome handling and despite what I thought before feels pretty good up top too. Plus it's much nicer inside than both.

Oh i'm sure it's a nice car but i'm not the type of person to pick a car because it's more comfortable. A c5 z06 and a supra are two cars I would kill to have. The GTR isn't even in my top 10. To each there own. At least you can say you have owned all these cars:cool:

I do all of the maintenance myself. To be honest, as long as you stay away from the stealerships, these cars aren't that expensive to maintain. Oil changes are $60 in materials and you only need to do them every 6,000 miles. Tranny fluid changes are expensive but can be done for less than $600 bucks if you do it yourself. I also got brakes and rotors for less than $2000 bucks on the way too. The OEM brembos are easier to change pads and rotors than the stock rotors and pads on my C5Z.
Despite popular belief, these cars are very reliable.
Very nice car and def one of my favorites but without the R1 switzer, whats the point.
These cars do really well with bolt ons
You DD a GTR? That's badass.
Hell's yes! And loving every minute of it!
This. Love the performance but the car does nothing for me.
Who cares? It does something for me. Enough to kick my C5Z and my Supra to the side. My C5Z made 700whp and was awesome but didn't have the complete package I was looking for. The GT-R had it and that's why I have it.
I know this is LS1tech and all but seriously there are other cars out there besides GM.

That's what I did, I chose this car out of numerous cars, C6Z's, a ZR1, ISF, M5, Gen 3/4 Viper and a 996 911 Turbo. I chose this car due to daily drivability, rarity, mod friendliness and just curiosity of the unknown. Liking it so far and looking to see what I will do with this down the line.
That car looks good in white for sure.
I didn't settle for anything less.

If you are talking owners, many of the guys I met, range from trust fund kids to the average young guys who you would see in C6Z's and Vipers. Plenty of GT-R owners are previous Supra and Z06/ZR1 owners and a lot of the richer owners own multiple cars.
Respectable choice. I like those cars. ;)
Thanks!
Beautiful car for sure!!

Around the time I purchased this car I couldn't find a ZR1 that was within 10 grand of this car. And a ZR1 is less daily driver friendly than the GT-R for sure.

This is about right. Very few 09's stay in the 11's tuned and tuned 2012 and 2013 cars usually dip into the 10's after being modified in any way.

It will be expensive but most of the stuff isn't ridiculously expensive. The most expensive things to maintain would be the trans (trans fluid is expensive) but the overall costs to maintain things in this car aren't as ridiculous as I thought.

You haven't driven the car so you really wouldn't know how you would feel about the car. I put over 2000 miles on the car in the first week and half and enjoy the hell out this car. I took this over a ZR1 not only due to daily drivability and price but power delivery, traction, responsiveness, and uniqueness.
11's stock? Sweet Jesus; when everyone nicknamed that thing Godzilla I thought they were trying to be cute. Why does it cost about $600 for the 'trans service?
The fluids are expensive. (Anywhere from $40-60 a bottle) Getting the trans fluids done by Nissan can cost an upwards of $2000 if you go to a stealership that wants to take your money.
Bottom line, It's an expensive sophisticated transmission that shifts in milliseconds and is pushing a heavy car. It's going to need to get the fluids changed frequently. Prices on most of these items are coming down as we speak due to more GT-Rs getting sold and being on the roads but it will still be expensive.

Because it can? :jest: Welcome to the high end performance world... ;)
The transmission has been somewhat a sore spot for an otherwise brilliant and athletic performance car. It's not, reading things over, much like most transmissions and it's not quite up to the task NISSAN set forth for it. Let's say it was an extremely intelligent transmission when most were still quite stupid, but it apparently wasn't quite strong enough to handle the power attached. Word is, that's fixed for the newer models.

What I was trying to ask is what is different about the transmission mechanically that makes it more involved than a 727, or a C6 or TH400, etc.
$2000 at a dealership? Damn. Even if you have the income to buy this car new in the first place that price has to make you choke a little...

That's if you go to the dealerships that want to bend you over. Funny thing is I found bulk bottles of the trans fluid at $15 bucks a quart. Looks like the dealerships are gonna has some 'splaining to do!

No, but it would be nice if people were mature enough to acknowledge that it is an impressive car, whether they like it or not. Most of the haters claim this car is an overpriced piece of Jap shit, and they couldn't be more wrong.
