I added a new daily driver to the family, a 2010 CGM 1SS RS/SS A6 Camaro SS. Had 6100 miles on it. Over the next 12 months, I'm going to modify it but avoid modifications that make the car noisy. I'll chronicle the build on Planet, but I'll run hi flow cats, avoid a cam, and doing stuff like swapping in a TH400. I'm looking for this car to wack most high end imports from a dig and from a roll. First goal is 12.6 with as little mods as possible, Then 12.3 with a bit more, and then 11.99. No blower either, I'm saving that mod to run 10.99.

I went to GLD, happy with my bonestock results...

I made 7 passes:

14.401@105.53 2.59
13.223@106.53 2.02
13.441@105.95 2.07
13.291@106.10 2.01
13.258@106.58 2.04
13.156@106.77 1.95 <<<<< Yeah!!
13.335@105.28 1.99

Thanks, I want to take one more crack at a 13.0 stock just need to fit it into my schedule.

04-27-2012, 10:57 AM
you should be able to dip into the 12's easily with nothing more than drag radials.

Yeah I think so too, but it's fun to take a crack at running 12.99 bone stock even though I think it will be pretty hard. But I think a high 13.doh is possible if the air stays like this.

04-27-2012, 12:20 PM
Solid runs for a stock A6! A good tune will put you well into the 12s. I like your idea of keeping her subtle but still quick.

Yeah I don't want folks to realize that it's modded until the pedal hits the floor.

My first goal is 12.5 with as few bolt-ons as possible, I'm working on a list I think that will get it there. I'm avoiding a few parts that I think are snake oil.

Goal #2 is 11.99 SI, no blower, no cam, no headwork. I'll need a converter for that.

I could always slap a blower on there but I'm personally never impressed by blower 5th gens that run high 11's.

Anyone got bolt-ons they want me to send my way, I'm probably not going with the most popular CAI system out there I think it's over kill. :)

04-27-2012, 04:38 PM
Man, I'd bet my paycheck that a good solid custom tune would drop you 4-5 tenths. The tuned shifts alone and reduced TQ management are huge. I think you could potentially see a 12.5-12.6 with just tuning. Some tires added to that would definitely settle you into some mid 12s imho.

Pro Stock John

Yeah I haven't researched torque management yet, but one idea I have to is to keep it when the shifter is in the regular D mode, and have it tuned way down in Sport mode. I'm thinking I will also tune AFM or DoD whatever it's called in Sport mode too.

I'm planning for sure to do a CAI, tune, DR's, UD pulley, and round 2 would be exhaust and a converter and probably a 2nd tune. I think the final combo will go 11.9@113.

04-27-2012, 05:59 PM
ya know? i was thinking a little.......that 13.15 is close enough, that just having a good night, with good air, and getting a little more used to the car, you may well drop into the 12's without touching it.

Yah I can do it if I have killer air (DA). Supposedly it was 450DA when I raced so it was pretty good already but I haven't personally checked it. I have some ideas on how to run a little quicker in the front half.

possibly lose the spare? i know that technically speaking doesn't qualify as not touching........but it'll fit in witrh the word gamse over in the racers lounge.

i just watched one of american muscles videos.......12.74@111mph bone stock, and 200 miles on the odometer. hell....i've got 1600and change on mine, and still won't beat on it that hard.

Not sure what vid you mean, but that ET sounds like an M6 car.

I don't think the car has a spare actually. I just took off the engine cover to help it cool down and so it would loose a lb or two.

I'd love to pull weight but honestly not sure what I can do. I don't want to drain the wiper fluid.

04-27-2012, 06:28 PM
Easiest weight management IMO is dropping the spare/tools and running a 1/4 tank or less. Other than, you can pull the passenger seat, etc....but doesn't really sound like that's the direction you're trying to go.

Good luck with the bolt on build !!

Will u do a Stall?

Yeah I ran with 1/4 tank.

Yep I will do a stall at some point.

I will run hi-flow cats of some kind, I might run long tubes and the whole deal or just do a mid-pipe with hi flow cats. I wonder if long tubes are worth it over just doing the cats...

i thought the camaros came with spares. some mustangs do....but mine didn't....something about the brembos.

i only suggested the spare, 'cause it's crazy easy if your car has one. i noted a poster just under you mentioned pulling the seat......i don't get the impression that you wanna go that route. it sounds like you want to do it the fun way.....which is never as easy as shedding weight/adding power adders, etc. i like your ideas in the op.

this is the vid i are right. it's a 6 speed manual. they run it with their 6 cylinder auto convertible.

also, my apologies for the thread hijack. b.T5pK-A.T5pxpA.6N8MHQ&_bta_c=1qva4mty8xpe259d9tbgz4de77b23

Car didn't like the humidity at all, how far off were you from your best times?

I ran 3mph slower on my best pass. The other two the car was way too hot, I was 200F+ before doing a burnout and I'm told the pcm pulls timing and power drops over 195...

05-16-2012, 03:50 PM
with the addition of the 4.56 gears i really have nothing to compare to, but the truck was slow. 12.41 was my best with the 4.10 gears and 12.77 was my best last night. The track prep seemed to be awesome though, I hooked on every pass. i was around 2.5 mph slower

Okay so I was off 3 tenths and you were too... That C5Z was going 12.6@113 on his last pass, he was running no mufflers...

Yeah my first hit I went that 2.01 and if I had more time I could have run some 1.9's again just a matter of how hard I nail the gas out of the hole.

Do you go to GLD a lot?

I gotta start adding some parts to this car, 13's really got stale last night. :)

Sadly it was 61F at 6PM, which I could have raced tonight!!!

I feel like running stock again one more time next week to be honest.

05-16-2012, 11:00 PM
I go maybe 4 times a year, usually i watch DA and go on good days, but after working on the thing so long i wanted to enjoy it.

I hear you, I've been in the 12.4-12.8 range for so long now I'd like to move on.

Your so close to a stock 12.99 pass, it would be a crime to give up.

That 5.0 mustang that was clocks off was pretty fast, 12.3's. And i have no idea what his mods are, the motor looked bone stock.

Stock a stang like that is 13.0@109 something like that. He had cai, hi flow cats/mid pipes, and axle back or no mufflers and dr's. I'm guessing he was 12.3@112-114? I know he was down some mph too.

Too bad we didn't race tonight it was 61F when I leave work and it was supposed to hit 49F tonight argghhhhhhh.

I'm planning to do 3-4 things at once to the car but don't have all the items yet so I try running stock again but maybe I need to get some ice it takes like 45 minutes to cool the car down 30 degrees just having the hood up and the cover off.

Went last night, air was supposed to be around 1000 DA.

Air was great for May.

I tried, but couldn't beat my 13.15@106...

Note the 1.94 60 foot on stock tires on the 13.20 run!

Oh well, no more running stock that's it!!!

Its tough to get near sea DA at Da Grove...almost never happens.
OP have you done the front sway bar mod ?? Pretty darn good 60s already
for stock tires !!!

06-04-2012, 01:17 AM
I have a pretty solid a6 tune I was running on my stalled bolt on 2010. was running 12.3.@ 111 mph time and time again in the heat on drag radials. The only thing I would change would be a shift to 4th instead of holding 3rd.

Also dont know how crazy you want to get with weight, but the bumper supports come out in about 20 minutes each. Also the new era otr cai consistantly showed colder intake temps over the roto-fab that I first used.

I loved my 5th gen, just could keep swallowing those payments once I bought a new house.

I'll hold off on !front swaybar and !bumper supports for now, just want to see what 4 small bolt-ons would to do enhance the stock performance.

Just got back from the LSX race, I need to inventory my parts and see what I'm missing before it goes under the knife.

Nice car PSJ. Do you plan to install any power adder? A Magnusson would be sweet on that thing after you do all the other mods.

Oh btw, I was thumbing through an old, old issue of GMHTP the other night it was the one where they interviewed the street racers. You had your red formula. Very cool.

I'm looking for 11.99 with bolt-ons, then might consider a power adder. I want to max out the stock potential, I'm personally curious as to what it could run.

Naw, I went 12.37@112 1.85 with stock stall last fall. I have a stall in it now, and the 1.66 I spun, more left in it. I'm doing some tuning of my shift points myself with some help from Jim @ Speed remotely and we are getting close.

I won't do H/C or blower until I run 11.99 SI. I have one more bolt-on I could do and I have 2 ways I can do weight reduction. I'll get there, but hopefully soon I'm starting to get bored. :)
