I know this sounds totally old school and they are another company but when I was in high school shop; there was TRW. They were reasonably priced forged slugs. Anything like that?

for both the 4.8/5.3. they use same compression height and wrist pin.but they are for the pressed pin older version rods.
also there is the dished version (5.3) piston
or flat top (4.8) piston
they have different part no.
i gonna see if i can find em again

the motor has 180K miles on it and probably never had some of the plugs change and missed a lot of oil changes so I wanna build a reliable motor. Boost will depend on whether or not I can get a reasonably priced forged crank.

y2khawk has some impressive results with a stock crank. Thats for sure. Makes me think twice about running the stock crank. Thanks for digging up and passing along that thread.

Exactly. The 5.3 and 4.8 engines can take a pretty good amount of boost with stock rods, pistons, and crank....even more with 317 heads. That's why I asked why you were wanting to bore it. It might not even need a bore. Just freshen it up, widen the ring gap a bit, and throw the air at it.
