Default 853 heads on a 6.0

I have a 03 2500hd that I need to take the heads off to get some broken exhaust bolts out and I have a set of stock 853 heads that I took off of my trans am. I am wondering if I should use the 853's or get the 317's rebuilt. Im looking to continue to use 87 octane, make little bit more power and mileage if possible. The only mods are shorty headers, muffler, cold air intake, tune. I also have the stock 00 fbody ls1 cam but I dont think it would be worth the work to swap that.

317's as far better than 853's. The 853's can only use graphite gaskets and the 317's are the same as ls6 heads with larger chambers.

Can the 317s be milled to match ls6 chambers?

Some 853's can only use graphite gaskets. Some can use MLS if they don't have the prying tab.

rebuild the 317,better port and a bigger chamber for 87 .look at a mild thunder racing or a mild EPS cam ,ether should increase power and mileage.comp 54-408-11 cam claims no retuning needed.comp 54-455-11 will need tuning ,but will make some useful torque.

How many cc are the 317s vs the ls6s? And how much do you mill them to match?
