Well today I finally set the motor in for the first time in my 69 Chevelle. Its not in for good but its nice to see it finally in there. The Autokraft pan fits great with tons of room all aorund, the Car shop Inc. 1" set back look like there are going put the motor in a good place while still be able to bolt the engine stands in the stock location as well as use factory holes for the trans crossmember, and the Dougs headers fit great as well with lots of clearance all around. I still have to set my angle finder on it to make sure everything is good there (forgot to bring it with me, the car is not at my house). Still a good amount of work to go but its nice to see some progress. The specs on the parts used are, 5.3L with corvette acc drive, LS1 intake, car shop inc 1" set back plates, autokraft pan, dougs headers, 4L70e trans. Here is a picture of it sitting in its new home...

Lol, yup. It will feel good to get it on the road again after being down for the past 6-7 years.

Most of the harness is worked out, still have to run few wires but its most of the way done. Yes those are the plates. After bolting the frame stands down for good the trans cross member does not line up exactly with the factory holes, I may have to drill one hole per side at most which still isnt a big deal. Moving along slowly right as I have been busy with work.

how much clearance do you have from the front of the sump to the back of the crossmember?

I know how you feel.. My Nova has been just dragging along... $$ and Parts being back ordered. I seem to go in spurts of work and then nothing for a month or two.

Keep up the good work.. Since I'm down the road a bit, I am looking forward to seeing your project once it is running !

I did, took awhile and I hope it works out. Its not as clean a pr-made harness but it should work. If I ever do another one it should turn out a bit cleaner. But I saved a couple hundred dollars spending the time doing it myself.

Not the best picture. But here you go, as you can see there is plenty of room and like I said before that is with the frame stands in the stock location.

Ya, its down to the nickle and dime stuff that really adds ups. I set a reasonable goal of just having it running in 2012 so that I dont make myself go broke in the process. Id like to check yours out at as well one of these days. Ive also been having crazy ideas of selling the chevelle shell and buying a nova. :eek2: So who knows. lol.

Yeah.. I have been buying part when I have the cash now, staying away from charging it.

I was signed up for Able Chevy show this weekend, but had forgot that I have to be in Reno this weekend.. But I can be found at the Baja Fresh GTG every Friday in Concord when I am around (since I run it).

youngrigo has also started work on his 1st gen F-body. There has been many other swap cars at the GTG.. See if you can make it one of these Fridays.. But if you do need to check out anything on my car. Let me know and i can take a drive :burn:

Thanks for the pic, I am gonna be close on mine because I am running the S & P style plates vs your 1" setback ones, hope it works.

Agent - if you need another 1/2" or so. Move the frame stands back or forward as needed. I started on my nova with 1" set backs, didn't like it being so close to the Firewall, so I moved the Frames stand forward 1/2".. On my Chevelle, I used the older BRP style of plates and just relocated the Frame stand as needed.

If you have room on the Frame stand, you can redrill the holes or new holes in the Crossmember.
