so i met a 2011 5.0 today on the interstate and we decided to run from 70, well we got to around 140 and i finally pulled two cars on him. next thing i know, i pull on the interstate and i see white smoke from the tailpipes! i get to work a mile down the road and park it. 00 ss cammed ls1, water everywhere under the car and oil pressure is down dramatically, temperature was about 65 degrees, motor fully warmed up. can someone diagnose the problem? :bang:

There are a lot of possibilities here. Get under the hood and look for obvious reasons first.

from what i seen, i didnt see anything up top, and also in wheelchair so a lil bit harder haha. i did notice it was more leaking from the drivers side

man ive been wanting to race a 5.0 for months just havent found one that wants to run! lol ... could be a blown heads gasket, check you coolant level and check your oil if oil is overflowed and watery than very well could be a blown head gasket

im thinking its a blown head gasket, the coolant level is very low cause most of it is below the car:jest: and i pulled pretty good on him. i thought they were a bit quicker than what i seen

My apologize if I came off rude, it was not my intention.
What did your oil pressure drop to and when did you notice it drop? What is the oil level?
Check the oil and see if it feels or appears thin. It might have a "milky" appearance but it might be too soon to appear obvious.
When you say coolant is leaking from the Driver's side, is it front or back of the engine bay?
We can try to narrow this down.
No No2 or anything, cam only?

At the driver's rear, the only thing that comes to mind would be headgasket or coolant crossover tube going into the head. The coolant crossover tube would be at the rear driver's side corner of the intake.
No other abnormal sounds though?
When it cools down, start it and see where your oil pressure is at.

if you think its a blown head gasket dont start it, if water is in a cylinder and you start it you run the risk of hydro lock which will break something like a rod, better off getting it towed and checked out

I think headgasket also and definitely don't run it if that's the issue. Let us know what you find!!!!!

Okay so I checked real good and leaking from water pump and normal oil pressure now.. Also threw a code, low input knock sensor.. So new diagnosis? The power just don't feel like its all there.. Still 340 horse but losing round 100 ? Lifter?

Knock sensor code will pull timing and make you lose power. Have to pull the intake to replace it. I have had that code in the past and it was the wire harness under the intake going to the knock sensor.

i bought the sensor already and i need to buy the harness also. and i guess im going to take the water pump off and see if its a gasket or possible crack.

You might want to go ahead and replace both knock sensors while you are already in there.

Looks like O'reilly Auto has them for $38.99 for the Dorman brand.

Water pump could be leaking out of the impeller shaft, iv had this before, did a coolant change before i went on holidays a couple off years ago and pulled up to a place came back to the car and noticed a coolant trail from the front, not fun with it being on holidays and a weekend but still drivable, might be worth just putting a new one on if pulling it off with the new gaskets.
Sounds like a nice car too.

the leak is VERY minor, still driveable but it will be parked till i replace the knock sensors and harnesses. might as well paint the intake while its off for the summer car shows :)
thanks for the part number blu99ta
thank you ausls1
