Drag Racing Tech - Does your lightweight battery cause your gauge cluster to reset on start up?

I'm running a PC680 battery and everytime I start my car the cluster and odometer reset just like when you load a new tune. You think it's because of the small battery? I put a new motor and turbo set up in the car this winter so I don't know if I have a issue or is this normal?

never done that here? dose it crank and start fine?
You know what it needs to see to reset? less then 9volts, no power 30secs, somthing like that?
dose it loose the radio presets?

yes runs and starts fine, doesn't loose radio presets.

My cluster started doing that about two years ago using the same stock type battery I've always run. I'm not saying your battery is not the issue, but it is possibly something else. It never really bothered me so I haven't tried to find the cause.

If you had any drain on it sitting (that would reset the cluster OD) its not going to have any power to crank it over more then 1 rev and start.
I would think if it was the battery, the radio would reset too. I think its somthing just with the cluster

Not thinking it's drain from sitting, I'm questioning if there is a voltage threshold that the cluster needs. An example would be that maybe when the engine is cranking the voltage drops enough to affect the cluster.

the trip on my car has always reset every time i start the car for the past 4yrs i have owned it. never worried about trying to find out why.

Your using a small race battery?

I didn't have that problem while driving the PC680 so it must be something in the cluster.

Mine started resetting everytime after I deleted my abs. I thought it did this anytime you have a service light on I don't know if this is relevant in your case though

When I had a brand new 99 z it would do it randomly. I never worried about it enough to get the warranty to fix it. The gauges would bounce off the pegs and the od would reset.

Mine started doing it when I relocated my battery to the trunk.
I thought I read somewhere that it was a ground issue.

this is exactly why I'm asking, to me it seems like a voltage drop that causes it when the engine cranks. I have no experience with this so all the input is great.

Mine did it every time I started it after I took the stock battery out, tried the junk pc 680 battery for a year, absolutely hated it, thing would die of you let the cold never mind try to crank a 13.5 to 1 motor over with it more then twice in the same 10 minute period of time.
Put a full size in the front for 1 track day, still did the same thing. Moved it to the trunk, still did it. As soon as the stock battery was unhooked and removed, the car did it forever after.
Why? No idea, and really didn't care. Never made any difference in the way the car ran. Every ground in the car was 100%, I went thru that several times looking for an issue, all the power wires I ran, were oversized if anything, grounds, from one end of the car to the other had absolutely no resistance either (less then 2 ohm's from the front to the back of the car at any given point, compared to other cars I found this to be normal or low if anything)
Just one of those things, I wouldn't worry about it.

That ABS delete has me thinking. Mine did start doing it about the time I deleted mine also. Maybe an odd coincidence but definitely interesting.

Low voltage causes it. To small battery will cause a drop in voltage. I run a Braille 3121 and it still does it about 1/2 the time.

Small bump, mine does this when launching the car, use to do it all the time but when I put a new battery in it fixed it.
