So I bought a 1994 firebird formula not too long ago that I've finally got running, and so I needed to smog it. It came with some bolt-ons and SLP shorties which are smog and CARB legal according to EO D-187-10 (http://arb.ca.gov/msprog/aftermkt/devices/eo/D-187-10.pdf). Well since there is no sticker for these headers in the engine compartment and apparently printing that PDF and showing it to them is not enough, my car has failed because they simply cant type in that EO number....Has anyone encountered this before? Isnt the CARB EO document sufficient? Is there someplace I can get this sticker? Let me know

Lol i about ready to do that....so over California laws. But anyways while reading about up on the BAR smog laws, I read a section that basically said that if there was no carb sticker, it didnt constitute a failure so long as the part number of the headers could be compared to the EO number. Does anyone know if there is a part number imprinted on the headers anywhere? I took a brief look and didnt see anything so is there a way to prove that my headers are SLP 30015 headers?

These are shorties but yes there is a plate that has the SLP logo, but no actual part number

When FL enacted SMOG crap......I knew many people that got PO Box's in other states or addresses of friends......no worries anymore about emissions testing.
Lots of guys I met in college that were from other states.....to get around the bullshit $500 tag fee they had to pay, I just gave them my address and they said they lived there for the 4 years in college.
Fuck the government.....

I would look closer to the tag on the headers and look for the EO number typically thats where its stamped. Read this at bottom of page. http://www.bar.ca.gov/80_BARResources/ftp/pdfdocs/APPENDIX%20G%20final%2012-2009.pdf
Maybe call slp for a replacement sticker

Or you could try another smog shop in another part of town thats not so anal. Talk to the tech before and explain the whole thing, see what he says.

Reading stuff like this is just one more reason why I am afraid to change anything about my car... Its completely stock right now. California laws are so bullshit.. Im leaving this wack state after school.

Go see a smog ref he'll look it up, and most likely pass you.

99Bluz28, Referees don't do smog licensing, at least mine didn't back in 2009. I needed to get my car smogged (the same day) after getting the BAR sticker for the engine swap, and the referee directed me to an officially licensed smog station since he couldn't do it himself (even though he had the equipment).
Look at the SLP tag on the headers. It should have the E.O. number and they should be able to reference it. You should also go back to the same place and tell them they're full of it if they try to charge you again for their own mistake.

My son Has some issues back in September 2011 with the CARB header and the cat. converter, and He failed smog (visually). The shop that did his smog told him to call and make an appointment with a smog reff, so he took his paper work with him to the reff and he verified that his header and factory Cat were smog legal. The reff then sent the info to the DMV (or whoever) and cleared it right then, since he had only failed on the visual.

Get some letter number stamps and Stamp the EO number on the tag you're self.

Yeah the carb # needs to be stamped on the actual headers. They ran mine when I smogged my car.

I'm gonna try and go back on wednesday when theres a different tech working the shop and see if he is at least sensible. The headers dont have the EO or model number on them anywhere just that SLP plate. either way I got in contact with SLP and they said they would send me the correct stickers. Thanks for the help everyone hopefully I can get it smogged with hassle now.

All the smog legal headers ive had always had the eo number on a plate welded to the header, I never had to take it in to smog it though. Id try a different shop.

Not all headers have the EO number stamped on them and it is not required. I had a buddy with headers on his Toyota 4x4 that were stupid expensive but had an EO number, just a sticker, not stamped. In the directions that came with the headers it specifically stated that the EO number does not have to be stamped on the header.
I also agree with taking it to another shop. It all depends on the person doing the test.

Although slightly different, when I went to have my SUV smogged they failed it (not officially) because I did not have the CARB EO sticker for the K&N CAI. I had to run to K&N, have them inspect it, then they gave me the sticker I needed. K&N also has an online form you can submit with pictures to get the sticker, so maybe the manufacturer of your headers has the same option.

My wifes Lancer has an AEM intake on it that was there from when she purchased it and the last time we got it smogged the dude looked up and down for the ID number and couldn't find it. He still passed it, I want to get her a legit intake though so we don't chance it in the future.

thanks for all the feedback guys I got the stickers from SLP and the smog shop agreed to smog it again. However, this time instead of passing, the NO levels were way to high. The first time they smogged it, it was something like 230 with an allowable max level of 490 or something like that. However this time, it was something really high like 750 or something. How could this have changed so drastically over the course of ~2 weeks? I haven't noticed anything different about the car. The only thing I did was do the ICM cooling mod and replace the coil wire neither of which I could see effecting NO levels.
