As a father of a four-year old who still cuddles with me when we watch movies and shows together and whose little balls and butt I still clean as I teach him how to shower himself, I can think of nothing, my life not even coming close, that would allow me to compromise however slightly the health of my precious little boy.

Reading stuff like this, even trying to hold it back, makes my eyes water.

Is there anywhere else in the world, aside from the US and China, where infants are treated with these kinds of cases of neglect, isolated as they may be?

I'm sure there's some explanation nurture or nature that covers it... I just think that whatever the explanation IS for these cases, no matter how few, the fact they are still happening reflects some failure of our own society's common values or it's laws as a whole.

Are services like HRS/Child Protection Services/etc. needing to save infants from disturbed parents like this as much in other countries as they are here?

OK, but "parenting" would be an attribute that, basically, how do you assess before people are parents???

We know a fucking psycho disturbed lady like this shouldn't have been a parent, but what if we could only know that by, well, an incident like this? I mean, yeah, someone like her should never have had kids... Too late now.

It happens all over the world, every second of every day. It's the least common here, per capita, than probably anywhere. In some countries children have no rights at all. They're killed or left for dead at birth for minor "defects" or for not being the correct gender.

There are places all over the world where a parent could do this to a child on a daily basis, everyone know about it, and nothing be done about it.

Medical science did. And loving family members who recognized that the child was in distress and took him to a hospital. Then the police investigated and arrested the woman. HHR/CPS merely fills out the paperwork to placethe child in another home.

Well that was my question. Is it happening elsewhere? There was nothing implied. Lately, news sites have mostly covered bizarre incidents in the US and China. I wanted to know what the stats were like elsewhere and I even mentioned how they must be isolated here.

Teaching in the last ten years, I guarantee you family values have changed overall with a huge majority of parents. I am not going to bother debating that with someone unless they also work with children. Please take my word for that.

I never claimed protective services saved anyone's life. I just stated that they needed to intervene. I should have mentioned "Countries that have the services." I was just wondering out loud how often the countries that have these services running efficiently use them compared to ours. Unfortunately, I work very closely with our system and have seen them remove many children from their homes for unbelievably toxic lives there.

Surely you got my point then. We do so much daily for them, invest so much in them, that it boggles the mind how easily someone can neglect a life that didn't ask to be brought into the world. You spend every minute of every day thinking about your children, and other people could really give a shit and take toothpicks to their kids' feet because they're "frustrated." I'll never get used to stories like this, so I thought out loud. I'm on the Internet. I'm not going to lose sleep because I offered an uncoerced reader an unnecessary fact. lol
