Street Racing & Kill Stories - Bolt-on Z28 M6 Vs. Bolt-on 5th gen SS Auto

Im about to leave this local meet and this loud as fuck 5th gen blocks me in and ask me if I want to run. I said sure for shits and giggles, I thought for sure I was gonna lose, I didnt even ask what was done to his car, but it was definitly exhaust. Mine just has 1-3/4 headers, 2 high flow cats, slp catback, and a lid.

Races:
40-125 I had him by about 3/4 car, his front bumper was by my rear wheel.
30-125 about the same as the first race
50-90ish We were neck and neck until I missed 4th gear. My clutch pedal was getting really soft. (stock MC)

I was pleasently surprised lol. He had a passenger taking vids. I didnt, and thats probably the only reason I won thats how close the runs were. At the end he asked me what else was done to my car. I told him just headers. "You sure?!" Lmao. Hopefully hes there at the next meet so I can get my hands on those vids.

Maybe 330 on a good day? 340ish? Not sure. I know with headers intake tune they put out around 360.... Most owners will go dyno it on a very very charitable dyno and pull 370 380ish. But yeah... I'd say about 330rwhp on a good day.

Well I have absolutely no clue what an L99 dyno's stock, let alone with straight pipes and a tune. But I wouldn't be surprised if the OP's LS1 car is running right around 320-330WHP itself, which would explain the wins.

No someone mentioned something about a junk van motor or something of the sort, I was making a funny... Then informed him a budget ls4/9 with an l92/ls3 top end could easily make 475Rwhp.. Ported heads would put it at 500Rwhp.

I ALMOST bought an ly6... However they are a bit more expensive and you still have to deal with the conversion box yada yada yada... The motors that you have to do all the "extra" stuff with already run a grand more than an lq9 and then you have to still buy more parts and more work to actually put it in, wasn't worth it to me.

I almost changed to an ly6 when I changed my motor from an lq4 because I wasn't doing FI anymore. The lq9 was an extra 250$ and the ly6 was an extra 800$ IIRC.

I think he is referring to L99 owners paddle shifting instead of letting auto do it all.

I've actually learned on my car that paddle shifting is 20x faster than auto on roll runs. I gained about 2-3 cars going from auto to paddle.

Yup ..... That paddle shift shit works beautiful ... A lot of l99 owners just let it down shift from like a 30 roll which it down shifts to 2nd gear and is not the same as being in 1st, cause the 6l80 has a bad ass 1st gear, the only roll I'll do in straight drive will be anything lower then 18mph and a 50 catches so fucking good also
