YUP ANOTHER ONE... im currently working for third party company name stage 3 separations , we do solids control on land based rigs. The job is ok the pay is good but the time off is fucken horrible! been out here 4 weeks going on 5 and havent gone home. They said 21 days on 7 days off well the 5 months i been working here I havent had a 7 day week off. Most people say fuck it its money but dont know how it is when actually out here without seeing your family. Well anyways looking for a starting position of course like floor hand or something. I have applied to patterson and H&P already just wondering what else is out there that people know about. Most roughneck jobs are one week on one week off or two on two off which im completely fine with that. Also any off shore rigs would be good also. Thanks !

Part of working for a service company on land, hustle hard and SAVE when you can, shit slows down on land and you'll be hurting. Not sure what Lil Keke was talking about when he said this, I am pretty sure it was directly about being a service hand in the drilling side of the oil field but, "Fuck them air Jordans the sky aint for ever sunny."
On another note, if you want to work two on two off and with a contractor is where you have your eyes set, off shore is the place to be. Got a lot big plays fixing to happen deep water and rigs are going back to work. Trans Ocean is hiring, Ensco is hiring, people were bitching on the last Hercules rig I was on, so I am sure they will be hiring soon. New company called Pacific in the gulf with a retrofitted-new build, you can also look in to Seadrill and Nabors. If you want to work a rotation off shore doing solids control, Baker Huges, NOV-Brandt and SWACO are places to look.

Probably because in your case they are going to start you as a rostabout and not rough neck. You got roustabouts on deck crews already who want those limited rough neck spots when they come open. Unless you have time in as a rough neck, your going to be pushing a mop, painting, and landing shit on the deck. Got to spending some time landing pipe before you can trip it. if you have a good attitude, capable of learning and can work so long as your on a good rig. If not for ever roustabout you are for life.

Halliburton is a good place to learn. Pay suxs! Was with them a while in the permian basin. I do coil and have less time off than you. Frac and cement do have better work schedules. Sanjel has better pay and works a 15/6 schedule. There is plenty of work in the eagle ford for a while. The bakken is getting there. Ive been doing this going on 10 yrs so not being home is ok with me. Rig work is ok. But the service side has more longevity

Im a cement supervisor. I made 85k last year as an operator, on track to make 120k this year. Jobs not bad, pay could be better but Halliburton looks outstanding on a resume with almost any other oilfield company.
I work in the pampa/mid con region. And ya, screw frac. If you want to be anyone in the biz you need to go to cementing, or tools.

If you don't mind me asking, what kind of pay do they give you for that bullshit? I used to work 80 hours a week, at one point 16 hours a day for 2 months straight. I stayed in for the pay at first, but then I came to the same conclusion you have.

Pay for me? Or?? Lol..
Region dependent from 14-17/hr starting pay. 80-100 hours a week. 60 of those or more consist of sitting on your ass.. 6 on 3 off. Supervisor pay starts around 21 operator pay around 16. Give or take 3/5 an hour depending on region..

Frac is short for hydro fracturing. Its basically the process of blowing holes through rock, filling them with sand, allowing product to flow into production casing/tubing.
Tools.. Hmm deff NOT CASING. Believe it or not there are machines we place at various depths that do differsnt things, packers, liners, float equipment, dv tools, logging tools. The oilfield is a lot more complex then most even realize.
Help me out here frac if you can add anything.

Starting out In the plants you don't really make shit. Unless you work lots of hours. And also most jobs aren't consistent, specially if your new.
All the cement shit or concrete or whatever it was, is what jarrod used to do. Remember that talk from him? He made it seem like it wasn't all that, and then he moved to solids control? So what's that say?
The guys on the nabors rig all made the Job seem like it wasn't bad.
And all the truckers I talked to while I was there made it seem like they didn't mind their work either. Just got to get a cdl and shit.

yea 25hr but i also get 70$ perdiem daily intown so adds up to 32$ hr basicaly. im not a combo welder i just weld stick non xray so the pay is just fine for me. aint gota do nothing critical n still get good pay. most combo welders in plants get like 26 with no perdiems only good companys like jv pay like 32hr. i have 2 buddies just hit me up to work with them one at CB&I making 31hr and 100 perdiem in town and another with STS TANK serv. making 29$hr n 70 perdiem working 7 12s.

Work at hooters or a strip club as a waitress. Make like 150 to 200 a day and shit.

Per diem ain't always there though is the thing. Specially if your working in town. I don't know If I ever work in a plant again. Unless I was Making like 30+ or had a really gravy job.
By even then I probably wouldn't have it as easy as I did with team.
I have realized that the money really ain't that good. I know waitress, chicks that cut hair, bartenders, making 200 a day and shit. All cash! Thats like 1000 a week. And not long hours? You can be a cop and make in the mid 20s an hour. And like double that on extra jobs. Hell if your a good salesmen, you can sell cellphones, cars, or furniture. And make more than you or I would at a plant.
carlos sauceda
05-03-2012, 12:17 AM
lol i kno lots of ppl with the jobs you just mentioned and i make more in 2 days then they make in a week. most cops make about 40k a yr working full time. my neighbor is a volunteer cop and he denied a full time job over his truck driver job at pepsi cause of the money. i have big boobs but not the kind you wana tip high on lol so i cant be a waitress ha. i bring home @ 1200 a week with 40hrs so im good where im at. pays my bills.
baalic
05-03-2012, 12:19 AM
I make $624 dollars for every full day. Plus 30/per diem. Fuck 200 a day. I make more then that before i hit overtime.

40x25=1000+70x5=1350-200(taxes)=1150 so thats @1200 like i said bring home. i said around not exactly. perdiem isnt taxed remember? but i currently dont have a check stub sorry only have some of 60hrs
blackonblacksls
05-03-2012, 12:36 AM
I have worked in plants. A regular week only put me at 1600 1700 for two weeks. Yeah I had checks that were double that when I would be working a lot of days. And sure if I traveled I made more. I use to get .55 cent a mile. Perdiem. And they paid for my hotel. but that shit ain't always there. And you get burned out on it. And it really isn't all that much money. 60k a year? That ain't shit! For having to deal with all the refinery bullshit.
Seemed decent at the time, but here recently after looking around. You can make decent money doing less. At a place that you don't have to wear Frc, hard hats, safety glasses all day.
blackonblacksls
05-03-2012, 12:38 AM
Per diem over 75 gets taxed. And you ain't bring home 1200 if your paying taxes on 1000! I used to pay 1000 just in taxes on some of my heavy checks.
blackonblacksls
05-03-2012, 12:39 AM
That's why I'm saying. Bringing home 150. To 200 a day is decent when you think about that's cash in your pocket no taxes.

When i work full 60hr weeks i bring home around 1700 or so. I forgot how much they pay a mile for out of town but from houston to marrero louisiana i got 330$ travel pay so that aint bad. I liked my old company cause they aid double time on sundays but there was no perdiem in town :/ .. i made 45k last yr n only worked like 7 or 8 months out the yr so im cool with that. Im barely 21 so fuck it thats way more then ppl my age usualy make.
carlos sauceda
05-03-2012, 12:44 AM

Yea like baalic stated, us in the Frac side are putting 120 hours a week 80 of those sitting on our asses and sleeping. Lol it's really simple on our side, we come to our pad, rig up our pumps, blenders, bla bla and we pump sand and gel downhole causing the perforations to expand and help enhance the production of the flow for the gasses they are banking off of. But yea the oil field is pretty complex, the only thing most people can't hack are the hours away from the fam, but hey your with 30 other guys more than you are with your own kids and wife. These guys are your fam. I love my job but I wouldn't mind having a be home everynight job. Baalic what area you from? I'm in the south Texas area out of the Alice yard.
blackonblacksls
05-03-2012, 01:05 AM
You didn't have to pay? Or you just didn't file? Lol big difference.
Find someone to do your taxes. Tell them your a mechanic on the side. Claim your vehicle and around 25k miles. Keep track of any safety bullshit you buy and claim that too. You can cut your taxable income way down. And get back alot. I used to get back 6k or 5k doing that. When most people who do it legit get back like 1100.
carlos sauceda
05-03-2012, 01:11 AM
yea i always wanted to put my gas, frcs, boots, crap like that on my taxes but i always loose my receipts lol. i got 1500$ back this past time so i was happy. i need a kid lol. but anyways jose checkout this company called CB&I from what ive hear they have a job on bw8 & I10 on the southside working like 5 10s or 6 10s not 100% sure. let me just say tank building aint no joke lol. especialy in summer this aint your typical working in a plant sitting ur ass down half the day type of job. bust ass all day n make decent money.

Transocean is a good company to be with and they are hiring at the moment. You will go in as a roustabout but depending on your work ethic and how quickly you pick up the job you can move up fast. I have seen people move up in as little as two hitches. Most rigs are starting to go to the 21/7 rotation due to the fuel costs on the birds though. Since is sounds like you are looking for a career change I would suggest safety.

For oil field services. Cement and Coil Tubing is where money is at. Ballic say hey to Boone Morris(management). I personally like halliburton and their equipment. I do tools also. Coil does EVERYTHING down hole. I make about 4500 take home every two weeks(after taxes). But I've been doing this a while. Either way you go. Become more than just a hand! I cant stand it to see a worker wasting my time sitting around all day. Its great to see a hand go find something to do. And not ask what there is to do.
