Default Batt'ry...

The first optima I bought basically had to be wedged into place, but at least the stock anchor held it. The last two batteries (optima and sears) I've bought seem to be undersized. They fit easily into place, but are not large enough to anchor properly therefore zipties are a must, and I'm sure one of these days someone in tech will see it...
If there are those using the stock location and the stock anchor, what batteries are you running?

Just get a cheapo tray and hold down kit from the parts store and run whatever batt you want.. Thats what I did and it no probs with tech and they always check it around here. I would have preferred using the stock tray and anchor with my optima but mine broke.

Buy a bigger battery, yeah it is a couple pounds but the reserve capacity is nice should something go wrong like a belt break or alternator die.

i ran a red top in mine for quite a while......used the stock hold down but i made a rubber coated shim plate for the front crossmember so it pushed the battery back like 3/4" and it fit perfectly....i run a little 11lb braille now.....im shocked how strong it is...cranks just as hard as my optima for the first 10 seconds or so......if the car doesnt start in 10 seconds it wont start anyway so it doesnt matter lol

I'll take some measurements of the current battery and go see what I can see. I was wondering if anyone else, whose stock anchor is still intact, has the same problem.

My old Formula ran and still runs an Optima red top with the stock tray/hold down. I did something similar to what quick95 did and never had any issues.

I actually had to swap out my midget sized Deka this morning for a Optima Redtop I have laying around. I have the opposite problem, the stock hold down almost seems too short to properly go on the battery, as I tighten it down it pushed the optima forward. Also the battery completely filled the space in there, I ended up putting a piece of rubber hose on the A/C line there because the battery rubs both the hood rest by the fender and the A/C line.

Oh well its not in there for long, only as long as it takes me to get a new lightweight battery in.

Yeah. Battery needs to be securely mounted to vehicle.

Optima - fits fine, don't know if other posters are retarded or if optimas are I consistent in size. From experiance, I assume retarded.

I've had at least four batteries in the car. Two of them were Optimas. The first Optima and the batteries before had to be wedged into place and were secure. The second Optima dropped in and had plenty of room. Both Optimas were the same part number. The Sears battery in the car now is the same dimension as the last Optima. I assumed what I stated was rather clear. Sincere apologies for not expressing it in simpler terms.
