Gears & Axles - New gears for DD M6

I need some input about what gears to install on my DD/Weekend track car. I will be purchasing drag radials and plan on launching at 3000-4000 rpms. Are 4.10's strong enough and whats the deals with 3.90's?

4.10s are fun with street tires but forget about good 60' times. If you're going to run DRs bring a trailer cause you'll need it to get home.

^^^true. 4.10s' are the most popular for M6s' and sticky tires are why M6s' get aftermarket rearends of 12 bolts,9 inch, & Dana.

3.90s have a tad more MPH potential. That little bit might help you stay in 4th gear when/if you add power.

4.10s you will be bummed if you go smaller, but dont be trying to launch hard at the track with a stickey tire you will need it towed home for sure

So 3.90's would be better for my plans. Also Ive heard that I'll need a new diff if i do 3.90's is this true and why?
