Default bye bye ugly stock looking coil packs/valve covers (updated w/ installed pics 7.12)

Thought I would share.

With many polished parts being installed later this month under the hood, I decided i needed to upgrade the appearance of the valve covers/ coil packs.

-removed those stupid white safety clips
-Polished and clear coated the valve covers
-painted coil bracket (color matched to the car of course)
-painted backs of coil packs black
-replaced bolts etc with polished stainless hardware
-wrapped wire harness in high temp black metalized tape.

Will have pics of it all together on he car in a few weeks when everything else gets installed

Definately looks good, what did you use to polish the valve covers?? I'm thinking of doing exactly this!

300 or 400 (cant remember) grit paper to 600 to 800 to 1000 to 1500 then buff and polish with a cotton wheel and white rouge. I made a little buffer setup so I had to do more sanding. With a proper buffer and wheels you could skip a lot of the sanding. One cover was cast much better and required less sanding.

Got them online, ill send you a PM. Got them in plain finish SS then just polished em up real quick with the buffer.

I"ll take a pm on the bolts as well please! also, about how long do you think it took you total to do both valve covers? It definitely looks worth it. Didn't realize they'd even polish that nicely

Surprisingly I used basic high temp engine clear. I tested it first on a scrap polished piece and was impressed with how clear it was and how well it held up. If it was on a part that might be touched often or see more abuse I wouldve used a clear made for polished metals. Part was cleaned super good before spraying too.

PS: last two pics it has the clear on it. Hardly knocked down the shine.

These work the stock covers correct?
100% stock covers

First one took forever!!! Didnt have a good technique down yet and the VC had horrible castings. Prob about 5 or so hours doing it a little at a time after work at nights. Second one was cast better and prob took half the time. Again, I didnt have a good strong buffer and was in no hurry. Super happy with the results but it was a PITA. Pm sent

I just worry with clear turning yellow, thats why i havent done mine yet, but you think the cast for vcs is bad go for the maf ends, mine were hell, came out nice but polishing really kinda sucks, on a nice smooth metal its easy but on crap metal that has to be sanded down to get it all even really blows
