The feeling with a 2.73 and a big stall is ridiculously loose...I had a friend that drove his LT1 around like that for a few days before a gear swap. IMHO, it sucked.

I am not worried about it being losse. I am guessing the stall speed goes up alittle (200 rpm's are) would this be right? And do you have any problems keeping the tran cool?

notice people saying it is loose are the people who dont own it
"my big brother has a blah blah blah blah blah"
anyway, i was running 4000 stall, 2.6 str, and 2.73
it wasnt bad at all!
just make sure you get that nice STR
now im running 3.73,
and it doesnt "tighten everything back up"
it hardly makes a difference.
just a *little* tighter off the line,
but if you let off the throttle and get back on it, its loose again.
and the shifts are more firm.
and the freeway rpms are around 3k
i would have went with a 3.42 if i would have known it hardly tightens things up at all.
the wife prefers the 2.73's.

LOL at Stone0fFire. You told me before I ever drove your car that it was a nightmare with 2.73s and when I drove it, it was. Running 2500rpm just to maintain your speed is REALLY loose. And your car didnt start moving in reverse unless tached around 2k. However, I did try out a Vig2800 later that week which was a lot better, but it still felt loose so maybe the 4000 wasnt that bad, but I'm not looking into a stall for a long time.

I have a PT4400 and at one point had a 3.08 gear in there.. it was horridly loose and took forever to go.. I had a 4.10 and it was much nicer on the street.. much more clean.
Now I have a 3.42 in there.. could use some more gear but its still very streetable.
Tuning is the key to making a very large stall seem much more tame on the street.

i Had a ST3500 and the 2.73 and thought it was just bearly bearable. It sucked from a stop becase if you got the tires spinning they didn't want to stop but it was wicked from a roll of 25mph+

Speaking of the 2.73 geared cars if you are still running the steel drive shaft toss that SOB in favor of a 3.5in Aluminum the one i got does actually weigh half that of the steel one.

I have a SSF 3500 with 2:73 gears. Yes there is some "looseness" but that is expected to a point with an aftermarket converter. When cruising around town "economically" the rpm's are around 1500-2000 RPMS until I hit about 44 mph. Once the lockup kicks in its like the way it used to be. The car does move from a stop without much effort - but not very quickly. It will roll at idle still too, although slower than before. To be honest with the converter I don't "feel" like I need gears anymore. No matter what speed I am going when I get on it the rpm's shoot up and the car goes. In the past the 50-60 mph acceleration area was always a dog. Sometimes I'm not even sure what gear im in when I accelerate hard now.

now that i know better by experience, the 2.73 is close to the tightness of a 3.73. the stall is what makes the difference. gears? hardly. either you think it is worth it or you think otherwise. unlike trojan, i think it is worth it to rev at 2k in the parking lot and then blow by those with "street stall". not only do i think its worth it from the launch, but from the shift extention.
speaking of which, the vig2800 stalls at 3400, right?
i happen to be selling a midwest 3400/2.0
but by the way you drive your car, trojan,
and by your expectations from a high-performance automatic,
you really ought to just trade it in for a manual.
tight, responsive, and "fast enough"
