Road Racing - Will these tires last 2 days of HPDE at sebring?

There's an HPDE coming up in late june that I want to try to make, but having to spend $$ on tires as well will be difficult. Tires are 315 555r's for the rear. Front tires are fine.

Sebring will kill those tires by the end of day 1. Im not even sure tech would let you drive on those. They look done.

As a general guideline they should have somewhere around 50% of the tread left for a weekend event. Those are to the wear bars and would probably be toast after a day. It's better since they're rears but I still wouldn't risk it.
I'll be there on June 23rd & 24th running time trials with NASA. Is that the weekend you're talking about?

Yep. Having to spend another $500 on rear tires might put me over my budget. Fronts are NT01's that only have one gainesville trackday on them.

17's. :( Only other option is to go on my street tires which are some all season coopers. Not sure how that would work out considering their sidewalls are soft as hell and the tread blocks leave a lot to be desired.

What tire is that?
EDIT 555 RII?
You can buy a whole set of NT05's for $650 shipped.

315/35/17 555r. Fronts are NT01's. My spare set of wheels is 17x9.5 for the fronts 17x11 for the rears.

Your running a drag radial for HPDE use?
My track wheels are all 17x9.5 so I can rotate and buy cheaper tires.
BTW, you might be surprised at how well street tires do, I did my first few events on cheapo Maxxis MA-V1's.

I hope you can make it out. Sebring is so much more fun than PBIR it's not even funny.

Im doing a short day next saturday with Track Guys too. doing the "test drive" because i wasn't able to get my DTC-70s and misc other crap all put on in time but i CANT miss the chance to get on the course for at least one session, especially if GMHTP is gonna be there :burn:

Probably going to end up doing it on my street tires. Not sure if I'm going to do the whole weekend of the 1 session thing. Too bad the nitto's always wear out in the center or they would still be good.

Just coming out on your street tires is a very good thing. If you can't swing the entire weekend then try and do a full day instead of the one session option. The one session deal puts you out in the very first session of the day when it can be painfully slow as everyone is getting up to speed.

They don't have 1 day options for HPDE 1 which i'm guessing is what they would put me in since I haven't done a track day in a few years. Hopefully they bump me up to 2 by the 2nd day though. Any advice on baseline settings for my konis? I know sebring is supposed to be pretty bumpy.

There are one day options. I did that with NASA a while back. Been a while for me too.
also - drag radials for the rear? super soft sidewalls

Not seeing it here.

And 555r's are fine on the track, they don't have soft sidewalls like other drag radials. Hell they had no signs of sidewall rollover on the rear unlike the nt-01's on the front.

Oh weird, I'm not seeing single day HPDE1 either. Did they stop doing it?
Good info on the drag radials, didn't know that.

It was pretty common before the 555RII and nt-01's came out when there was really nothing affordable in that size.

I didn't realize they don't have a one day option for HPDE 1, sorry about that. I understand the logic but it really forces people to budget big for their earlier events.

The One Day option is called HYPERDRIVE - but its not really the same.
HYPERDRIVE is a cheap, quick alternative to HPDE1 - it's only $75, but you only get 1 session with an instructor.
I'm pretty sure HPDE1 is a 2-day event @ Sebring...Hyperdrive is good cost alternative...HPDE1 is around $450, plus all the added costs.
I'm trying to get my stuff together for the Event in Sebring next month...don't know if that's gonna happen.

PBOC is doing one in the middle of July but it's going to be hot as hell then. I'm already worried about my car with no oil cooler.

Didn't know about PBOC...do you have a link to the event?
I feel you on the heat...summer time is rough, especially in black.

Tech was a joke when I ran HPDE at road atlanta. I spent months on prepAring my car and when I went to tech all they did was check all my lug nuts and said I was good to go. I guess Sebring is different though.

Any feedback on those Kumho's?
I am seriously considering them for a next set. I know a guy that runs them on a miata, but that's a whole different animal. They aren't too pricey either. I like the fact that I could drive to the track on them, race, and then drive home.

NT-05 IMO is the best tire for the money.

Any feedback on those Kumho's?
I've been running r-compounds on the track for quite a while now but I still drive to the autocross events so I run a street tire class on some Kumho XS 275/40-17's. The SCCA was running a PDX not too long ago on the little 1.2 mile club course in the infield at Daytona. I decided just to drive the car over and run on the Kumho's. They're about 2 1/2 years old at this point with quite a few autocross runs on them so they are falling off and almost to the wear bars. They still did pretty well with some slipping and sliding but it was a lot of fun. Here's some video and you can see me pretty much passing everything so they can't be that bad. Daytona PDX
