I have a Rockford Fosgate Power 250M (yes dinosaur) it started to cut on and off recently, power and ground are fine, is it something with the amp? The red LED light at the top glows bright then starts to dim and go off and then light up slightly and repeat til I got tired of looking at it.
If the amp is going out, whats a good replacement for my model, not looking to upgrade anything just miss hearing bass.

Perhaps its tripping the internal overload circuit due to internal short or faulty circuitry? I had an amp do something similar, it was internally shorted to the case and was then shorting to the car through the mounting screws.

I have 2 amps and they both run off 1 remote wire, the tap is good still.
Did you check the fuse
No external fuse I can see and the fuse on the power wire is ok too.

I opened it up and nothing looked burnt/loose
is it in protection mode?
How do I know if its in this?

do you have owners manual, read it it should so what the light does if it goes in protection mode and how to fix it. If not try and find the owners manual through google, there should be online copy

Same here, amp for kicker goes in protection mode. When I turn car off then on the woofer works for either 30 seconds and sometimes a half hour. All fuses are good. I cannot get it working while it is in protection mode by checking connections ( ground wire, power wire, battery connection ). Have to shut off then turn car back on. I do not have knowledge in this area. What can cause this? It is a 1000 watt amp pushing a single 12 inch alpine type R. Not having problems with my door speakers or rear seat speakers. They run on seperate amp.

Sounds like possibly a bad amp to me. You mention the sub model but not the amp - is it some generic noname or something?

I'm pretty sure it's a candaence amp. I bought it used off ls1 classifieds with a side box. The last time I had a no name brand called etx that thing worked great for 8 years until I sold the car.

There is no protection light on this thing, probably going out since it hasn't worked in a few days. Whats a good decent amp to replace it with?
