Hi Guys,
I got a chance to take 3 passes Friday night at WIR. The track prep was minimal and was a tad cold. The DA that night was 252. I see now I had waaay too much pressure in the MT drag radials because I was at 25lbs. I tried launching three different ways:
1. Dump it fast at about 2,500 and try to limp it out right above bogging

2. Slip it fast at about 3,000

3. Slip it a little slower at 4,000

I have a line lock and did a good solid 4+second burnout and kept them spinning out of the water. That track doesnt let you drive around the water. The best 60ft I managed was a 2.13. Thats terrible. FWIW, the suspension was working I thought well (front end high, back low, no wheelhop). Nothing I did could avoid massive wheelspin.
The best the car did was a 12.9 at 114mph with that 60ft. My shift points were at 6300rpm ( a bit low for this cam). Were those 7 or so extra lbs of pressure in the tires that damaging, or wtf. I'm not used to radials just slicks, but this was frustrating. I'm going to try again in a couple weeks, if it doesnt get at least into the 1.8 range with some practice, I might as well go right to a 15" tire with some sidewall.
Any help would be appreciated:bang:

Drop the pressure in the tires to about 17-8, when you do your burnout, wait until you see smoke and then count to 3-4. Try leaving around 3-3500 and slip the clutch a good bit, You definitely need to shift it up around 66-6700. I think you should pick up 2-3 tenths off the 60 and 1-2 mph.

Also another thing I've seen alot of folks do.. Do not burnout in the water box.. Back into the water box and spin them over once then pull up about a foot out of the water and do your burnout.. Otherwise your just slinging water everywhere and the tires are not getting sticky.

Last but not least.. practice practice practice.. You definitely have some very low 12's in it the way it sits.

Good luck!

You're going to have a VERY hard time getting a drag radial to work with a clutch car, especially on anything but a very well prepped track. Been there tried that, and now the radials are just my street tires. :D

I'm kind of thinking the same thing. My last car ran in Nostalgia Super Stock and a 30x10" slick allowed 1.38 60ft times. I might be better off just putting 275/60/15 ET streets on and running a 4.10gear and then let er fly. Hopefully, this engine either has a 100shot on it by this fall, or if I scrape the funds up, a forged 400ish cuber with a 200 shot(better clutch then too). I want single digits again, but still want to be able to drive it on the street.
For a car keeping the 7.5" factory offset, how much BFH clearancing does one have to do to fit the 275/60/15s in the factory wheelwells?

Thanks for the input so far guys

Any chance there was too much water tracked ahead of the water box? Seems like those tires should've been hooking up at least a little. I've seen M6 guys pull 1.5s on drag radials, so I wouldn't blame the tire.

It's possible I couldve dragged a little ahead with the fronts, but they weren't spraying too much down to start with. I will give them one more try in a few weeks to see if they fare any better.
If that doesn't work, 15's are going on with a "real" sidewall. Then I can take advantage of the suspension I have. There's no reason this car can scrape a high 11. From a roll, it pulls really hard, just have to get a respectable 60ft.

Yep, my '01 WS6 stock pulled 2.1s on stock tires too. These things are like taking off in the rain. There's no sidewall to flex, once they start spinning, the show's over.

WIR's track prep has been less than stellar lately (past 2 seasons). I can go to GLD, Byron, 41, or Cordova and get a 1.5x on a 255/50/16 ET Street Radial. Best I had at WIR last season was a 1.8. So you're fighting a losing battle from the onset. I'd get off the radial and on a slick if I was trying to race an M6.

Oh, and you don't need a built motor to go 9's. A friend of mine just went 6.20 to the 8th with a MS3, worked heads and a direct port in a 3800+lb full weight Trans Am. There is nothing lightweight in that car. 4L80e, S60, Mild Steel 10pt cage, etc.

I guess its back to the Grove for me again. I wish it wasn't so dang far. I guess that's my fault for living up in the sticks.......
