Racer's Lounge - Thinking about it again...

I know I posted a thread on this topic, but I'm thinking about getting rid of my chevelle. Don't get me wrong, I absolutely love the car, but the old school feel is getting to me. It's a well built car, but the body is not show worthy. It's starting to get some rust, the motor is hella slow, and it doesn't do anything for me anymore.
I was thinking about a lowered chevy 1500. Black on black. Or maybe a 2004 goat with an ls2. Either way, I will keep my TA for a track car, but I want something with some AC, parts that will last (hopefully), and something that I can jump in, and drive wherever, whenever, no matter the conditions.
So, should I go with a ford lightning, chevy 1500, gto, or maybe another f-body? But one without mods that runs like a champ? I just want something new and different, but I know I'm going to get pegged for wanting to get rid of such a time machine, but I think it's time for something fast, fun, and fairly new. Thanks guys.

I would go with the GTO. Comfortable, can be made decently quick, fairly new, etc.
It seems to fit your wants and needs the best IMO.

I'd probably test drive a G8 and see if you can do that. Didn't see your price range though

Aren't you 17? Why don't you buy something practical to go along with the TA?

I thought you were in high school?
Why not get a cobalt ss? It is quick enough to be fun and fuel efficient. Thats what I would do.

You already have too much horsepower for your age. Buy a slow beater before you hurt yourself or somebody else.

Id say thats more relative to how responsible someone is vs their age. Then you can say age is proportional to responsibility but everyone is different. If hes going to speed it doesn't matter what car he has or how fast it is.

I think I can help ya with the Chevelle being "hella slow."
Drain the oil. Is it extremely dark? If it's still coming out dark at around 10 minutes of draining, go ahead and flush it. Hook up a water hose, run water through the engine, and start it up until the water to comes out clean.

I must have too much HP for my age! I am going to go turn the boost down.... :jest:...

Indeed. Currently on page 5.
"I'm done with this car" seems to fit along with OP's feelings towards the Chevelle.
Hey OP, that reminds me... I also heard you can pour sand in the intake while the car is running. Easiest way to perform a port job on the Chevelle. Around a 100hp gain i think...

Must be nice not having to pay bills. lol. Seriously when I was 17 I was lucky to have my POS geo pr(will)izm. You got 2 bad ass cars. Take care of your education and career before loading up with cars. It will pay 10 fold later because struggling to pay for school and cars is not fun and conducive to your education.

I don't understand why the Chevelle can't be the weekend toy and/or track car, and the Trans Am be more of a daily driver? This makes the most sense to me, and is how I manage my '71/'02 car combo.
The Trans Am will hold up a lot better to the weather exposure of regular use. Either one can be made just as fast as the other.

I agree. I mostly lost interest at the same point. That might be a cool thing to say when you're in high school and talking with friends in the hall between classes, but I'm too old to appreicated it....actually I think I was already too old to talk like that the moment that I reached the birth canal.

Hey if he had a clear title instead of calling it "thinking about it again...." then I wouldn't have mentioned anything about his age and giving my opinion on what he ought to do. If he would have made the topic "what should I trade my Chevelle in for" then it would have yielded no responses from me and most likely other regarding anything other than suggestions of what to trade it in for.

Silly me... thinking I would get a legit response on the internet.
I tried that sand in the intake though! Holy shit I had to stay out of the throttle because I risked shitting my pants from all the horsepower!
Anyways, I don't see how you can say I don't need all the horsepower. I have been driving for 2 years now (a year and half without parents in the car). I have had the TA for one year too. If I couldn't handle the horsepower, I would have gotten in an accident a long long time ago. I respect the throttle, but that doesn't mean I don't get into it every now and again.
I like the looks of a black gxp, but then again a black on black lightning or lowered 1500 would look badass.

I don't know if this is a sign or a coincidence. My dad just said his mechanic wants to build a badass motor for my car. Not idea what he has in mind, but maybe I should sell the trans am, have the motor built for my DD, and buy a beater to drive? That sounds like fun.
