Hey guys. Started blowing oil on the way home from work this morning. Got home and found that the oil pan gasket was ripped below the timing cover. I need to put on a new gasket and borrowed an engine hoist from my neighbor. Pan had a dent in it also so I ordered a new pan. I'm going to be doing this in a few days but wondered where the best place to hoist the engine up from is. Thanks.

Don't bother lifting the engine. Clean the outside of the pan thoroughly (mineral spirits works very well), drop the pan by taking all bolts out of it and work a new oil pan gasket around the outside of the pan.

if you were to lift the motor google "happy hooker" and dont click on the porn links, its an actual bracket that bolts to the intake.

I wanted to replace the pan since this one is dented. Any other options besides the happy hooker?

I have the happy hooker and has worked good but id never get or have any part of me under the motor ever with it. The bolts are tiny and the circle part at the top is warping. If i were working under it id use a chain.

When I brought my engine to my builder with the intake still on it I put a bolt through the front of the driver's side head and rear of the passenger side head.

You shouldn't trust the hydraulic cylinder on the cherry picker either for that matter, if it blows an o-ring it's coming down NOW. At my work we have hyd cylinder locks that are like split tubes that go around the cylinder piston to prevent retraction.
