General LSX Automobile Discussion - I have the WORST rattle, is my rear exploding?

My rear rotors are warped, and I get a little shimmy when I slow Down and that's when I can best capture this rattle. Seems like its coming from the rear right behind me. I thought it was the hatch or the plastic parts but it's not. It's not the shocks. It rattles over bumps and crap. All I can think is that the axle is rattling around in the tube. I took a video, you hear it best right in the beginning.

Does anyone have any ideas? Or similar problems?

If your rotors are warped then definitely get those checked out first. Have you tried lifting the rear off the ground and turning the wheels by hand. I think I know what your problem is a person I know had the same issue/noise and I for the life of me can't remember what it was that fixed it. If I think of it I will post back here.

Damn! You were almost so helpful!!! Haha let me know if you think of it. All my f bodies had rattling rears. But this is brutal. I know the rotors need replacing, but it's just their vibration that amplifies the noise. It also comes on over bumps cracks, anything. Could it be a trans mount or something? It feels too far back.

I would take the wheel off and take a good look at your rotor and I would check the bump stops as well. Sounds like something that a good search should be able to find.

I really had it apart the other day, im gunna try again. I took the rear shocks out and reinstalled them, and I had it all apart when I was doing the heater hose. But I dont recall checking the bump stops. Seems too loud to be something like that. Sounds like my axle bouncing around. It's Loud, which makes me think it's something large.

Jack it up so that the axle hangs and see if you can move it around and recreate the sound at all also. How did the bushings on the shocks look?

Ok. I noticed if I push on my rear quarter REALLY hard I can hear some play in the axle, but I don't think that's it. When I had the shocks off they looked like almost new stock replacements.

Could it be the exhaust rattling on something?

i had a very similar sounding rattle, it ended up being my rear control arm bushings (stock pieces), they were shot

are you still running the factory control arms? or aftermarket? poly? rodend?

jack up the rear of the car and support it on jackstands so the rearend has no load on it, try and see if there is any play in them, if there is then this is a perfect time to upgrade to some adjustables!

hope this helps!

Nope. Shook that around, wasn't that. The noise is too much of a THUNK to be something like exhaust.

i had a similar thing happen when i went over bumps. do you have aftermarket LCA's by chance cuz thats what was causing mine. they came loose after a few days and had to be retightened.

I do actually. And I just put them in. I'll check. I think it did it before I installed them tho

OP in my first post what I couldn't think of was this. The bushings on the control arms were pretty much gone. So we put in a new set of aftermarket control arms. FIXED it then a week or so later the noise come back. Retightened the bolts and all has been fine since.

Ok I tightened them
Up. They're poly ended. Seems to have helped a little. The drivers side was the slugged test bit loose. Gunna check everything more thoroughly and grease up whatever I can.
