General Maintenance & Repairs - Cool air from one side of exhaust?

Is this normal? I noticed it the other day. The pass side exhaust air coming out is not hot at all, even at operating temps. The drivers side is exactly how I would expect it to be.

The car has been sluggish lately and I'm trying to narrow it down a little bit.

Normal LS1 exhaust setup with LT's.

Unless you have a True Dual exhaust, I would say thats a non-issue

I don't have dual exhaust......single pipe to Magnaflow....both my pipes blow equally hot as hell.

Maybe something inside the muffler let loose.......??

When I had a ATR cat-back exhaust it would actually pull air in through the passenger side pipe, it wasn't broken or damaged it was jut the way the muffler was designed.

I want to say it's a magnaflow, but I'd have to get under the car to be 100% sure of that.

****Mine is a Magnaflow. Both pipes equally hot as balls.

What jackass system would have two pipes coming out of a muffler and only one pipe spits exhaust out......thats fucked up. Never heard of this.

I guess a cheap one just for looks.....has two pipes, one is a dummy pipe. Maybe????

That's the thing I don't really get. There is equal amounts of air coming from both exhaust outlets, but only one is hot. There's definitely hot air going into it as both headers are burning hot.

I would check your muffler real close for leaks

Have a friend push a towel up against the hot one....see if hot air comes out of the cool one.

If it does, maybe something inside collapsed or shifted somehow......

could be sucking in cool air from a leaky weld.

Thanks for the suggestions, guys. I think the first thing to do is bypass the muffler entirely and see if I notice a change.

I'm going to try restricting the side with the hot air today and see if I get any hot air to the passenger side that way as well.

Do you have a catted Y-pipe? If you do maybe one of the cats broke-up inside then a piece of it got stuck in the muffler.

i dont have different temps on my exhaust tips, they are actually both cool to the touch, even after hours of driving. but i do have more exhaust coming out the drivers side, after i put the magnaflow on. i just think it is the way the muffler splits the exhaust.

think of your exhaust as an electrical system, it takes the least restricted path. for the exhaust to come out the passenger side pipe (when a real muffler is used) then it has to make a u-turn in the muffler just to come out the passenger side. the drivers side has 2 right angles, or a slant that makes it the path with the least resistance, hence why the drivers side is usually hotter, or blows out more exhaust then the passenger side

This makes perfect technical sense. I was mostly curious if it was a reason for concern or may be related to the sluggish performance.
