Cool What if you had a cheap iron headed 6.0

Lets say the fates smiled on you and you were blessed with the older iron headed LQ4. Out back sat your hypothetical '84 C10 in need of EFI\LSx goodness. What combination of stock parts would bring this motor to life? ie, stock block but L92 heads or block and 799 heads with 5308 cam.

I like the l92 heads ,but it will cost you more the cost of the l92 heads will be more then used 799s,and the need for off set rockers.the 799 route would be more budget friendly.get a ls6 intake and pick the cam that meets your needs.

I will admit I am no longer a fan of the L92's at least in my friends combo. LQ9 with L92 heads and I forgot what cam. In a 71 Chevelle, a little chubby off the line but then it winds up and is off. I can't picture any combo worse for a heavy truck.

you cant really blame that on just the heads, there are a lot of things tht could cause that (wrong cam, too high of rearend gears, not a high enough rpm stall converter etc.)

I hear you 88, but finding the "right" combo maybe too expensive for trial and error. I know those heads flow tremendously, but you need more than that. He has 3.55 gears and a 2800 stall I think. The 22's maybe to blame as well, but the thing is so darn fast on the top end. I want a torquey 6.0.

3.55s with 22's? Geez, that would be a dog. And who puts 22s on a Chevelle?

You must have forgotten the l92 heads come stock on heavy *** trucks, so the Heads cannot be blamed at All.

The effective gear ratio is what's making at a turd. 22's and 3.55's...try some 4.10's in that chevelle and watch it come alive at about stall speed.

That is a valid point...but didn't they come with variable timing. As for the truck, my budget is $2000. Maybe ported factory 243's, 4l60e and 3.08's in the rear is what I see right now. Cam choice is another factor.

I would assume the same people who put LS motors in old school cars...because they felt like it.

Well you should join it, especially if you are still modding the C5. I got a great set of sports seats off there and a lead on a cheap trans.

You need a lot more than a 2800 stall

I would do:

Stock 6.0 cubes
MILD Cam 223/223 .571/571 114
L92/LS3 heads
LS3 intake
ARP bolts to hold it together

What trans/stall combo are you going to run? What is your budget?
