I lot of you guys have reached out to me in Tampa over the last 9 years and asked me to fix tuning issues on your car. Ive been providing free tunes for a long time on this forum, but sponsor 5 other forums including the IB Corvette Forum.

IB will allow me to switch my corvette sponsorship to this forum if Id like. I sponsor two gen5 Camaro forums, but because of the 5 year/100,000 mile warranty, owners are slow to modify. Similar to new Corvette owners.

That's what makes me think about switching my Corvette sponsor to this Camaro tuning forum.

I've been to the basic and advanced tuning schools, and return often to help when they have local tampa tuning classes in Odessa. I also get a good rate when I rent their dyno.

So my question is, are most of the older style camaros in the Tampa area Modified already, or are guys still looking for a good tuner in Tampa that doesnt work on your car, screw it up, and never returns your calls?

Im pretty busy from the other forums I sponsor in Tampa, but I wonder if I could pick up more business from this forum.

Phil

I was also thinking of selling bolt on parts, but the margin price of profit is small. Looks like the newer Camaro and Corvette forums for tuning are the way to go for sponsoring.
Thanks

How much do you charge for a dyno tune?

Since I dont sponsor this forum, it wouldnt be proper for me to give out prices.

Im a pure tuner. I dont do installs. I can point you in the right direction for shops ive used for installs. I have a lot of guys that do their own installs then come to me for tuning to save a buck.

This morning, I reached out for my contacts at the IB to switch over my sponsership from corvette forum to this forum. I think I have 5 month left on my contract.

You poor guys have been stuck with some beat tuners long enough and its time to make the race community fun again.

I need a tuner to figure out why I can only pull 1.89 60' times on my DR's. Maybe hot motor pulling timing, but something is not right with me running 12.50 in a 1500 DA with 200lbs weight reduction, I want to get it figured out.....could be my DS though.

Tryed Phil out this weekend after having car tuned several years ago by another well known tuner and his tune was just ok, Did AFR heads and cam and gears and was not running at its best and original tuner moved, Waited 2 years not sure which tuner to use and found and checked out Phil with good reviews, He Tuned the car and drove with me to see how i liked it which the other tuner did not do, and he fixed all my problems and car runs great and tested it on the way home and wow, Will be using Phil on any future engine upgrades, He does a great job not in a hurry and the price is very good Thanks Bill

I'm not in the Tampa area, but I've driven to that area previously for a tune. Didn't like that they didn't use a load bearing dyno and used a tail pipe sniffer for the AFR. I would be interested in going to you when you can post pricing and details on the equipment you use.

I am moving to Tampa in Jan./Feb. and will be looking for a tuner... I haven't heard much locally to Tampa so you will be my first contact as I have always seen respectable posts from you..... Take that back, I have heard of a few close to Tampa, and it is why I won't be using them. LOL

I will have the majority of the tuning already done.... I will need things like: Retune when I ported the heads/intake later on, gear changes, possibly switching to SD, etc... Nothing huge just small tweaks here and there. Setup is a forged 370 with a 2-300 hit on it.

I'm curious to a break down of pricing, re-tunes, etc... As well as interested in possibly learning to tune my own car a tad, mostly so I can make changes if I decide to go SD, small changes at the track, etc... I think the big tuning (head swaps/etc) I will be leaving to someone more experienced until I get a few years experience myself.

Phil, you are going to get a better market over here on tech rather than CF. Most people that actually mod their shit come on Tech anyway so you won't lose much ground on the vettes. When I get back, Ill have to hit up the Hooters on Gandy for the meets...

I finally had a free minute to faxed in my paperwork today, so I should be showing up as Tampa Tuning in the next day or two.
here's a heads up to my site. Im priced lower than any tuner in the area because it shouldnt break the bank to make the car run right the first time!

For Immediate Release

Tampa Tuning Revs Up Its Staff

(Tampa, FL) Tampa Tuning is pleased to announce the addition of a tuning master. Ian Thomson, former full-time instructor and research and development analyst for “The Tuning School” and co-writer of the tuning guide for the six speed automatic transmission has joined Tampa Tuning.

Thomson brings a wealth of knowledge to the tuning arena.

He’s spent thousands of hours in the classroom as an instructor and on the dyno tuning cars. Thomson excels in forced induction vehicles and enjoys the challenge of getting the most out of heads and cam packages. His heads and cam C6 Corvette has 540 RWHP with a smooth shifting 6l80 transmission.

Phil, owner of Tampa Tuning, is thrilled to have Thomson on his team. “He’s one of the best tuners in the country. For those of you who have thanked me for your A6 tuning, you can also thank Ian. He wrote the book on 6l80/90 tuning.”

Glad to see this. I'm going to check out pricing. I'm going to be doing a 3200 or 3600 stall in the next month or two, and will need a trans tune. Plus I want my street tune looked at. I also have a question about my MAF, and wonder if it being de-screened is an issue with my Vararam intake.

Edit. Checked out the site, damn good prices.

Phil,
Thanks for keeping us updated and on the valued addition to your company and services.

Question: Have you performed any Gas Mileage improvement tuning on the 5.3 engine?

Ian has a 3600 Stall in his Corvette and im telling you its very smooth while shifting.

Once the MAF and the fuel trims are dialed in, screened or unscreened MAF shouldnt have an effect, but im a screened MAF fan

To assist with fuel milage, you can delay the power enrichment delay to further up the power band, But you'll loose a little pick up and go.

We do this with trucks

I forgot mention, but its on our website, I always offer a 10% discount on my tuning service to any member of the Military or Law Enforcement.

Sorry guys but I dont do the traveling smoke and mirror road show where I travel to other cities, stuff base line tunes in as many cars I can get to and call it dyno tuning, then run out of town and dont answer the phone when you have a problem.

Im your local area tuner that does contract work for a couple shops in the area, and have my long list of clients.

I sent a message to IB yesterday and asked how long this takes to switch over sponsorships and im waiting to here back.

Good talking with you Phil, and like I said I don't mind testing the waters with you. I will shoot you a pm regarding drivability issues with my C5. I think it has do do with my '02 sensors. 13.7 mpg with a 3200 stall and Texas Speed V2 cam just doesn't sound...right. I will be in Tampa next month and as soon as I get the cars\trucks\bikes moved down I will hook up with you. You wouldn't happen to be familiar with ECUedit for the Hayabusa would you?

I can't wait to get my stall in, as I have a feeling, Phil will be able to pull a couple more ponies out of my ca,r from my current tune, from a known tuner. No reason I should be running 12.5 with my weight reduction...

How far in advance do I need to set up an appointment? Do you do any tuning on the weekends?

Phil'sC5vette
07-24-2012, 09:35 PM
Yes Tampa Tuning does weekends. Depending on your package, I can book you August 4th at 9am. I have an A&A C6 A6 corvette booked at 1pm that l want the rest of the afternoon open for. I dont rush on cars, so when Im done, they are done..... with the exception of the automatics.

I have to allow a little extra time for automatics. I dont throw a tune in the transmission and tell the owner its done. I configure the transmission the way most guys seem to like it, but some owners like the shifts faster/ slower/ harder/softer...... its an owner preference performance modification if you know what I mean.

So after I tune an automatic vehicle, we have to take it for the owner comfort test. Its their car, they have to love the shifts so I design the transmission area tune specifically for the owner. No pushing cars in and out quickly to make a buck. I like you guys, but I want to tune it right the first time lol.

PM me to lock on a tuning date or Email me at Tuning@TampaTuning.com

OK, i will let you know here shortly. I do appreciate the extra automatic care lol. My shifts are rough. I don't mind it, but my wife hates when she is in my car, and the 1-2 shift launches her head back words, when we are just going for dinner. At WOT, the shift will destroy any street tire, and I'm not heavily modded. I could use a blip more softness.

So we've been using the heck out of the dyno and the former paint room has been getting pretty roughed up. My kids busted their butts scrubing the floor. Good thing PowerTech is a full service shop and has 55 gallon drums of several differant cleaning detergents. Here's the before and after.
