Cadillac CTS-V - solid rear

Hey who here has done a solid axle swap? Im interested in throwing in a m9. Itd be nice to see some write ups if anyone knows of any. Also for those that have done how do u lk the ride handling and how does it feel?

That was actually one of the first things I looked into for my V, but to no avail. I'm not sure the platform can support a solid axle.

Damnit. Well would a c5 rear work? I know they hold up a lot better than wat our rears do. Anyways i plan on swapping to 5 lug. Itd just save me trouble of doing the back.

No all c5 rear bolts to transmission on the corvette.

It can be done if you have the money. If I ever wanted to a built rear thats what id do. IRS is plain junk IMO for straight line cars with power. If you wanna spend 1/3 of what the cars worth on a rear you can do it.

I don't understand the obsession with a solid rear axle...it would cost as much as the car is worth and would most likely yield similar results to the IRS as the shocks, links, and springs would be in a very poor location for a solid rear.

The V2 can launch pretty damn well and it has an IRS with almost exactly the same geometry as the V1. If I was looking to drag race I would stiffen the cradle and control arm bushings, tweak the rear camber, try to find softer (or adjustable) shocks, and of course get an 8.8" or a 9".

You would NEVER be able to build an IRS to the strength of a solid for one.

99% of the V2s you see launching are autos so that negates the fact they launch well on IRS.

With the suspension on the market today i highly doubt you would see much difference handling wise with a solid on the street.

Solid rear would cost the same as a built IRS in the V and it would be a hell of a lot more durable.

So, break the bank trying to engineer a solid axle with less than ideal attachment/articulation points or try to make a shitty IRS a little better.

You make it sound like the built IRS swap is so easy though. I dont possibly see how a solid swap would be that much harder. A chassis shop that specializes in fabrication and building rears should have no problem designing mounts and stuff for a solid in the V.

Well it was just in my mind for a solid but shit by buying the gforce rear thats already 1/3 of the car! I called and they said it was 8000 with everything ready to bolt on. That was without driveshaft! Im not here to argue just wanted to know if its been done. I have even thought about a v2 rear but for the price im better off getting a built one.

Im confident you can do a built solid, full suspension, and driveshaft for less then 8k.
